Drew McIntyre returned to WWE earlier this year and went on to win the NXT Championship in just four months. His last run in WWE was not successful and as a result, he was released in 2014 from WWE. He went back to the independent circuit and made a name for himself and returned to WWE as a big star as opposed to his 3MB days.
McIntyre lost his title to Andrade Almas at NXT Takeover: WarGames. He was unfortunate to suffer an from injury towards the end of the match. He tore his biceps and could be out for at least six months. Drew was rumoured to join the main roster soon possibly in March or April of 2018, but his injury will likely derail those plans. It will be interesting to see where he is headed upon his return.
