WWE spent the entire road to SummerSlam emphasizing on how Braun Strowman could lose his Money in the Bank contract to Kevin Owens, and while those count outs and disqualification angles were somewhat explored by the creative team, as they wanted to give KO a chance come to SummerSlam, at the event, they threw it all away.
As Kevin Owens might have been called James Ellsworth at the event as he was shockingly squashed by Braun Strowman in a matter of a couple of minutes. After enduring a vicious chokeslam on the steel ramp, KO was power slammed by Strowman in the centre of the ring and pinned. This was one of the most confusing decisions of the entire pay-per-view, as what was the need for WWE to bury Owens credibility?
