This might be the greatest female roster in wrestling today.
This might be the greatest female roster in wrestling today.

The Royal Rumble is a little over two weeks away and it is difficult not to get excited. There are so many possibilities across the board, in both Royal Rumble matches. While Brock Lesnar is entering the men's Rumble as WWE Champion, the 30-woman showcase also poses some interesting scenarios.

With the current female roster only adding up to around 20 active competitors, NXT is set to play a substantial role in the Royal Rumble once again.

After only contributing a couple of entrants in the first-ever women's Royal Rumble match, 2019 saw a lot of women from Full Sail show up in the match. The likes of Candice LeRae, Rhea Ripley and Kacy Catanzaro showed their skills on the ultimate platform.

And with NXT's women's division going from strength to strength, we are likely to see another few names pop up at the Minute Maid Park on January 26th. Here are five NXT stars who could enter the 2020 Women's Royal Rumble Match.

#5 Toni Storm

Is it Toni Time?
Is it Toni Time?

Toni Storm is set to challenge for the NXT UK Women's Championship this weekend, at NXT UK Takeover: Blackpool II. But she is unlikely to come away with the belt, especially since she will also face Rhea Ripley for the NXT Women's Championship at Worlds Collide.

The 2018 Mae Young Classic winner will certainly put on an epic match against her biggest rival, but there may be more to come one night later. One way to make more strides for Storm would be by showing up in the Royal Rumble match.

She has not yet been a part of the Rumble, making it an even likelier possibility. Expect Toni Storm to enter the match and have a characteristically good showing.

#4 Dakota Kai

Her new attitude is very interesting.
Her new attitude is very interesting.

Man, so many current female talents come from Australia and New Zealand. That includes Dakota Kai, who recently underwent a pretty significant transformation to her character and look. And it was a necessary transformation, after reaching her ceiling as a babyface.

Kai was overlooked by Rhea Ripley in the build-up to the women's War Games match a couple of months ago and she turned heel during the match. She attacked Mia Yim before the match, took her spot, and then proceeded to viciously injure her best friend, Tegan Nox.

The New Zealander even won the 'Future Star of the Year' award a week ago, signaling the potential she currently has to make the NXT women's division her won. But in the meantime, Dakota Kai could showcase her skills on a larger platform. She could have a decent showing in the Royal Rumble match, with the mean streak she has shown.

Also, a Rumble appearance for Kai could lead to some interesting storyline developments for NXT in the near future.

#3 Tegan Nox

Vengeance on her mind.
Vengeance on her mind.

This is the storyline development regarding Dakota Kai. As of right now, Tegan Nox has not yet returned to NXT following the betrayal she suffered at the hands of Kai. The former Nixon Newell "re-injured" her knee during the beating she endured at NXT Takeover: War Games 3.

It seems a likely shout that Nox will play a part in the Royal Rumble match, possibly eliminating Kai and setting up a grudge match for the black and yellow brand. After all, Superstars returning from injury are always welcome in the Rumble match.

The Welsh-born Superstar has had some horrific luck with injuries in the past and now, it looks like those days are over. Hopefully, once she is back, Tegan Nox can return to form and get going at Full Sail. Returning at the Minute Maid Park could be the start of a truly memorable run for 'Lady Kane'.

The women's Royal Rumble would be better off if the former Team Kick partners have a confrontation during it.

#2 Io Shirai

Could a main roster move be on the cards?
Could a main roster move be on the cards?

It has been speculated over the past few days that Io Shirai is unhappy with her position in NXT and that WWE might be looking to move her to RAW or SmackDown so they could keep her. And why wouldn't they, she is an exceptional talent. The Joshi Judas is one of the best wrestlers in the world.

Shirai entering her second consecutive Royal Rumble match could be the beginning of her transition onto the main roster if that is what the company is planning. She would make an instant impact, as she has done as both, a face and a heel in NXT.

One particular moment that could stand out in the entire Rumble match is a staredown between Shirai and her former tag team partner, Kairi Sane. It already happened during one of the many brawls in the build-up to Survivor Series, but an extended confrontation between the two would be sweet.

There are a few interesting things WWE could do with Io Shirai and right now, a great showing at the Royal Rumble might be on top of that list.

#1 Shayna Baszler

She is one of the favorites to win.
She is one of the favorites to win.

Out of every Superstar, male or female, who is not on WWE's main roster, Shayna Baszler is the likeliest to show up at the Royal Rumble. And not only that, but she is also a heavy favorite to win the entire thing. After losing the NXT Women's Championship to Rhea Ripley, Baszler has nothing left to do in NXT.

So, it only makes sense for her to enter and win the Royal Rumble. The Queen of Spades could challenge Becky Lynch for her RAW Women's Championship at WrestleMania after she won a triple threat match involving 'The Man' at Survivor Series. It is the logical next step in the evolution of Shayna Baszler.

Even if she doesn't win, the MMA Horsewoman will probably have an incredibly dominant showing in the match. Baszler is the ultimate main event heel that the RAW women's division craves, in terms of freshness, if nothing else. It is going to be an incredibly exciting few months for her, that's for sure.

If Ronda Rousey does not return this month, Shayna Baszler should be a lock to win the 2020 women's Royal Rumble match.
