5 potential WWE United States Champions

The 'Road to Wrestlemania' has begun and WWE has some stellar matches booked. There are excellent stories developing on both SmackDown Live and Raw, but Bobby Roode and his United States Championship are lacking a solid story. Therefore elevating this historic title should be primary for WWE.

In past years, WWE has afforded wrestlers with titles only for them to be beaten almost instantly by someone else. Furthermore, history has proved that a solid rivalry with twists and turns is best for business. Roode most certainly has the credentials to participate in a strong rivalry and defend his championship.

So, which wrestlers could challenge and beat 'The Glorious One' to become WWE United States champion. Let's have a look at some possible options.

#5 Drew McIntyre

Drew McIntyre was once known as 'The Chosen One' by Vince McMahon. Between 2007-2014, McIntyre won the WWE Intercontinental Championship and WWE Tag Team Championship alongside fellow wrestler Cody Rhodes. Furthermore, with an uneventful initial run with WWE, they released him in 2014.

Eventually, he returned to WWE on their developmental brand NXT, becoming the NXT champion. However, after a short reign, McIntyre, unfortunately, became injured and relinquished the NXT Championship.

Furthermore, with fans left wondering about his fate, what better way for a return than debuting on SmackDown Live and defeating Bobby Roode for the United States Championship. How will WWE play out this situation?

#4 Will Ospreay

'The Aerial Assasin' Will Ospreay has literally wrestled everywhere except for WWE, providing wrestling fans with fantastic matches. Just 24 years old, his future looks only set to skyrocket. Recent news has indicated that Will Ospreay desires to help build the ever-growing wrestling scene between Australia and New Zealand.

In addition, having already achieved success in Japan and the United Kingdom, how would Will Opsreay perform in North America? He has years ahead of him, so match options at WWE are endless.

Furthermore, with WWE Raw having too much talent to build stories, it seems evident that SmackDown Live suits Will Ospreay best. Picture Roode offering an open invitation for the United States Championship and 'The Aerial Assassin' Will Ospreay wins.

His success as IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion in Japan most certainly provides WWE with enough reason to bring in Will Ospreay.

#3 Aiden English

Not since Daniel Bryan's 'Yes movement' has the WWE Universe been so supportive of a wrestler's gimmick. Aiden English and Rusev are popular with fans and will grow further. However, what booking options are available to WWE for Aiden English? The idea of 'Rusev Day' feuding with Bobby Roode for his WWE United States Championship is perfect.

Excellent on the microphone and decent in the ring, it is apparent that Aiden English has potential to be WWE United States Champion. Therefore, a clash between Bobby Roode and Aiden English for the WWE United States Championship seems the right direction for WWE.

Alternatively, with support from Rusev and the crowd, Aiden English could defeat Bobby Roode. How could WWE book this epic clash?

#2 Randy Orton

'The Legend Killer' Randy Orton has achieved success on every level, winning thirteen world championships. Starting in Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) alongside Batista, Brock Lesnar and John Cena, he was destined for a bright future. Becoming a member of Triple H's stable, Evolution, early in his career led to multiple championships in following years.

Currently signed with the SmackDown Live brand, Orton plays one of the best heel characters in history. However, he has lacked a significant program in recent years. Therefore, bringing back Orton's previous persona much like his involvement in 'The Authority' feud with Seth Rollins.

Furthermore, it is unfortunate Orton's lack of story on television because he is so valuable as a wrestler. So, with Roode lacking relevant opponents and storyline, why not bring in Randy Orton and have him win the title.

Firstly, Orton has never been United States Champion. Secondly, what better way to build Bobby Roode into a legitimate main event wrestler than feuding with The Apex Predator. WWE would be crazy to avoid this situation.

#1 Andrade 'Cien' Almas

Since debuting on NXT Andrade 'Cien' Almas has considerably improved since recruiting Zelina Vega as his manager. Similar to Paul Heyman, Vega advocates brilliantly for the NXT Champion, removing Andrade's biggest weakness (microphone promo work).

Furthermore, her advocating skills afforded Almas the ability to develop a strong heel character in NXT.

With a debut in the Royal Rumble and an excellent title defense against Johnny Gargano, what else could Almas do in the developmental brand. Therefore, a loss to 'Johnny Wrestling' for the NXT Championship allows Almas to progress onto SmackDown Live for an epic showdown with Bobby Roode for the United States Championship.

Personally, this feud would bring pure energy and drama to its highest peak. WWE needs this to happen. Furthermore, with the addition of Vega, just think of the domination that could occur; the duo are ready for the main roster.
