Curtis Axel's name is a tribute to two of the greatest of all time, his father Mr Perfect Curt Hennig and his grandfather, Larry ‘The Axe’ Hennig. While his career did begin promisingly, it has spiralled downward ever since, as Axel plunged into obscurity.
A shame really because Axel is a former Tag Team champion and a former Intercontinental Champion too. Remember AxelMania? Remember RybAxel? Remember the Social Outcasts? Axel was once a promising player on the WWE roster, but he has descended into the lowest berth of the lower mid card over the years. He was also the last person to be drafted during the brand split. Foley would be doing him a favour by letting him go.
