No, please put those pitchforks away! When it comes to Ricochet, there are two ways his time in WWE could go. He could just follow the mold, go through some feuds in NXT and win a championship or two before getting dumped onto the main roster to fend for himself. Or, he could be that shining light in the relative darkness that is 205 Live. Just, hear me out.
Without a doubt, there are a lot of reasons why Ricochet would be a good fit for the main roster. He's unlike any other attraction that either Raw or SmackDown currently boast, and could definitely act as an interesting player post-Wrestlemania, or even SummerSlam 2018.
However, as you will see in this article, 205 Live needs Ricochet far more than any other entity in WWE. More importantly, to a very large extent, Ricochet needs to go to 205 Live.
#5 205 Live needs a savior
205 Live has no champion, no consistently gripping storylines, no faith from either the audience or management. 205 Live is in dire straights as of March 2018. WWE's experiment with a cruiserweight specific show has been one desperate shot in the dark. Superstars like Mustafa Ali, Neville and Cedric Alexander have cultivated niche fan followings, and there is no doubt that the quality of matches is stellar every week.
However, without the larger than life characters that WWE has been able to create on the main roster and NXT, 205 Live has been dragging along rather than flourishing. The show needs a rejuvenation of some sort, and an injection of Ricochet could be exactly the fix that WWE is looking for.
#4 Ricochet has carried this burden before
All of these issues could be fixed with the arrival of a certified one-man Wrestling show, Ricochet. He has been the soul of promotions on his own before, for example, Lucha Underground and the internet based WCPW.
There is simply no doubt that a foray into 205 Live would be just as beneficial for all parties. The Prince Puma character in Lucha Underground created waves in Professional Wrestling. A character obsessing over the goal of a championship over three seasons, using his athleticism as a crutch was an amazing long-term story.
A story which could benefit the Cruiserweight Championship, which until today has not been the most revered.
#3 New fans
The fact that Ricochet is so well traveled doesn't just have an effect on his wrestling style. Ricochet has cultivated fan bases all over the world that might be turned off by the prospect of 205 Live currently.
From Japan to the UK to Mexico, Ricochet could bring with him new eyes to 205 Live. The same tired fan base that currently watches the product cannot propel 205 into a new era. Moreover, WWE would benefit from receiving a dosage of new, international fans. Fans that dictate merchandise sales and Network buys based on their favorite stars, such as Ricochet.
#2 Main roster troubles
Deep down you know that when your favorite stars move up to the main roster, you have a few fears. Fears that are not unfounded, as WWE have time and time again not had the best of luck translating NXT success to the main roster.
Now, I love Breezango and the entertainment they bring. However, does anyone want to see Ricochet in mid-card tag matches and comedy skits during his WWE tenure? Ricochet deserves more. He deserves the same sort of action that he had on the independent wrestling circuit. And as far as WWE is concerned, I am not confident that there is room for him on the main roster right now.
#1 The possible matches
As mentioned before, the problem with 205 Live is not that they don't have outstanding and experienced wrestlers. While the dream matchups in and of themselves are not enough to save 205 Live, they sure do help. Ricochet vs Mustafa Ali, Ricochet vs TJP, Ricochet vs Tony Nese. The combinations are infinite.
While it may be that putting Ricochet on 205 live would rob the WWE Universe of all the main roster matches he could have. The fact is, WWE has enough talent coming through to substitute for that. What they do not have a substitute for, is King Ricochet. The most captivating new high-flyer to grace WWE television since another legendary King.
