5 Reasons why Becky Lynch attacked Stephanie McMahon and got suspended on WWE RAW

Why did Becky Lynch assault her boss on this week's RAW episode?
Why did Becky Lynch assault her boss on this week's RAW episode?

What a way to open the show! Stephanie McMahon invited Becky Lynch to RAW this week, after the altercation that Lynch had with Rousey ahead of their WrestleMania match. As always, she was drowned in 'Becky' chants. McMahon urged Lynch to visit a doctor and get herself evaluated.

Lynch accused McMahon of never working a day in her life and not knowing about what struggle was. The segment ended with McMahon suspending Lynch until she got a medical evaluation done. And then Lynch socked Stephanie McMahon right in her face, in a segment that brought fans to life.

Why did Lynch attack Stephanie McMahon? To answer this question, we may have to go back 20 years, in my opinion.

There are 4 other reasons too!

#5 To recreate the Austin-McMahon feud

It's the height of the Monday Night Wars. WCW is clear and away the superior brand with the launch of the nWo, with Sting in the rafters descending to take them out, and with a host of talent that once belonged to the WWE. Stone Cold Steve Austin and Vince McMahon would then begin a feud that would change the fortunes of WWE and establish them as the industry's top promotion.

Fast forward two decades and AEW is on the horizon, ready to stake their claim. They could potentially be the next WCW if the promotion decides to play its cards right and they certainly have the financial backing to make a huge impact. WWE is now recreating the classic Austin-McMahon rivalry, only in the women's division now.

By taking out her boss, Becky Lynch has established herself as the female Stone Cold Steve Austin and could take the company to new heights. One wonders, however, if the reception to this feud will be as great as the original version.

#4 To set the seeds for the next Evolution main event?

Stephanie McMahon is not an active competitor these days. However, she does make an exception when the stage is right, to step in the ring and give some younger competitor the rub because she's an established mainstream name. It is clear that somewhere down the line we're definitely going to see a match between Stephanie McMahon and Becky Lynch.

This could potentially be the main event of WWE Evolution this year because there is no other women's match that is worthy of attracting mainstream viewers like this one. Stephanie McMahon proved at WrestleMania 34 that she is a competent competitor under the right circumstances and it will be interesting to see her compete in the ring.

By scoring a win over Stephanie McMahon (this should ideally be the result), Becky Lynch will establish herself as the top draw of the division. Even if this is not the Evolution main event, this is certainly a match destined to happen.

#3 Because of Ronda Rousey's post WrestleMania 35 schedule

Rumours abound that Ronda Rousey's days in WWE may indeed be numbered. The fact of the matter is that she may just leave the company after WrestleMania to start a new family.

It has been clear from the build over the past year, that Stephanie vs. Ronda is the direction that WWE was originally heading in. But the unpredictability of her schedule may have thrown a lot of plans into utter disarray.

As a result, Becky Lynch may be the handpicked protagonist against the devious and underhanded machinations of Stephanie McMahon in the months that follow. She certainly has more crowd support than Ronda Rousey does, to be the breakout star in the women's division.

If we are making Attitude Era comparisons, Ronda Rousey may just be akin to Mike Tyson, the mainstream celebrity who arrived to launch Stone Cold Steve Austin to the next level.

#2 To genuinely give Becky Lynch time to recoup

Rumours emerged not long ago that Becky Lynch had missed Live Events recently because she was injured. And then rumours to the contrary would surface saying that her injury was just a work. The best way to work a crowd is when there's a grain of truth in the statement.

Becky Lynch works a full schedule with WWE. And there's a great possibility that she may be a tad banged up and some time on the shelf may give her time to recover herself once again. The other WrestleMania match is already in peril because Seth Rollins is injured and WWE may want to avoid the same with Becky Lynch as well.

I really do think that Becky Lynch may benefit from a few days off after her gruelling ascent to the top of the division. The suspension may be a way of doing that.

#1 To actually establish a women's match as the WrestleMania main event

If you've been watching WWE for a while, you know what a big deal a women's match main eventing WrestleMania is. I mean let's be honest here guys. Back in the days of Torrie Wilson and Dawn Marie did we ever think this would potentially be the case? Even now a large portion of the WWE Universe may not be accepting of it.

But by creating this moment, by building heat, there is a platform to build on. Now it's not just a fight between two very talented athletes for the RAW Women's Championship. Now it's about the authority and much more because a McMahon is involved.

By decking Stephanie McMahon, Becky Lynch has ensured that there's a lot more attention to this match than there was. Wrestling purists may dislike it, but they cannot dispute it really.
