5 Reasons Why Bobby Lashley won the Intercontinental Championship

And NEW!
And NEW!

Yesterday in our article 5 potential twists for RAW, we mentioned the possibility of Bobby Lashley becoming Intercontinental Champion. Turns out we got that spot on (and even Braun Strowman being removed from the Universal Championship match to some extent).

The match on RAW saw Dean Ambrose defend the Intercontinental Championship against Seth Rollins and The Almighty Bobby Lashley. Lashley wasn't even part of the Intercontinental title picture but forced his way in after attacking Seth Rollins and costing him in his Falls count anywhere match against Ambrose.

This week, Lashley put on an absolutely dominant display, and Rollins and Ambrose even had to team up to try and take out Lashley. Either way, The Almighty one prevailed, thanks to some help from Lio Rush.

Either way, Lashley has captured the Intercontinental Championship for the first time in his career and ended a very brief reign from Dean Ambrose. We explore five reasons why this title change happened in the first place.

#5 Dean Ambrose hasn't done a good job of late

Let's face it, Dean Ambrose hasn't had the best run since turning heel. Fans were all in the belief that an Ambrose heel turn was long overdue, especially since Seth Rollins picked up some steam as a babyface over the last year.

However, his heel turn, while shocking at first, fizzled down and his character wasn't really what fans wanted it to be. Instead of a darker, maniacal and sadistic side, we saw a man taking injections to his backside, constantly referring to himself as the "moral compass of WWE" and all that jazz.

His match with Rollins at TLC was a disappointment and it's possible that he took the blame for it. Either way, the powers that be decided that Lashley would better represent the IC title at this time.

#4 Lashley is long overdue for a title run

Ever since Bobby Lashley came back to WWE, his run too turned out underwhelming. He was a white meat babyface and fans realized that he just didn't cut the role. Adding Lio Rush undoubtedly helped him move further, and he finally turned heel.

It seems like WWE was just waiting for the right time, and on RAW, they decided to pull the trigger and make Lashley champion. He's been long overdue for a title run.

#3 Lashley is getting pushed again

Bobby Lashley may not have instantly become a main eventer again upon his return. But one thing for sure is that he was always featured as a top-level star, and 2018 was jam-packed with other superstars getting pushed and being in the main event scene.

Vince McMahon has always loved Lashley, and he probably felt that this was the right time to start giving him another title push. Expect big things from Lashley.

#2 A high-profile WrestleMania match

It's likely that Lashley will walk into WrestleMania as Intercontinental Champion. For one, there's a very little chance that he's going to defend it at the Royal Rumble, primarily because he's already announced his entry to the Rumble.

There are two PPVs in between, where Lashley will most certainly have to defend it. But from the look of things, expect the new champion to hold it atleast until WrestleMania. He could be involved in a high-profile multi-man match.

#1 Seth Rollins is winning the Royal Rumble

If anything, the latest RAW seemingly cemented the possibility that Seth Rollins will win the Royal Rumble. He's clearly the favourite, and with rumours of him facing Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania, he's now completely out of the Intercontinental title picture.

Rollins is finally going to get the big win and that's also another reason why he wasn't pinned in the match in the first place!
