Will Brock Lesnar go the distance in this year's Royal Rumble?
Will Brock Lesnar go the distance in this year's Royal Rumble?

WWE made waves when Brock Lesnar announced that he would compete in the 2020 Royal Rumble as the first entrant, which has created rumors of what the company is up to. It also has some wondering if Brock Lesnar could end up winning the entire match from the number one spot, which would be a monumental accomplishment.

With that being said and Lesnar's status within the company in mind, here are five reasons why he won't last long in the Royal Rumble match.

As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments below and be sure to tell us how long you believe the Beast Incarnate will last in the Royal Rumble match.

#5 He doesn't have to

What's the point of Brock Lesnar going long in the Royal Rumble match?
What's the point of Brock Lesnar going long in the Royal Rumble match?

Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, Brock Lesnar doesn't even need to last long in the Royal Rumble match for his presence to be meaningful. In fact, WWE could probably accomplish so much more through cheap heel tactics or a surprising elimination than they ever could with him going the distance.

Keep in mind that Brock Lesnar is starting the match as the first entrant - and unless he gets injured early - will have to fight off 29 other men. Not only does that sound way to predictable of an outcome, it also could cause an uproar with the WWE Universe, who has spoken out about this kind of thing in the past.

With that being said and a short story being a much better option for Lesnar at the Royal Rumble, expect him to be eliminated relatively early from the contest. Either that, or go to create one of the most anti-climactic endings to a Royal Rumble match in WWE history, which would be hard to do after the 2012 incident.

#4 Fan reaction

The WWE Universe would not be happy about this!

WWE has pulled off some pretty amazing feats over the course of the company's history, but to have Brock Lesnar outlast 29 other men in a Royal Rumble match would be a pretty big ask. Not to mention the fact that it would be a widely unpopular decision and could lead to some resentment heading into WrestleMania season. That's something WWE absolutely does not want going into the most important time of the year.

In fact, anything less than a shocking elimination will probably have fans booing and demanding that WWE stop relying on Lesnar so much. That's why the company needs to go with the much more predictable outcome and just have Lesnar leave the match early after being eliminated.

At least that way, the conversation shifts to the Superstar that eliminated Lesnar; the company can keep the WWE title on the Beast Incarnate and no one has to take a needless loss. It will also possibly help gives fans a positive outlook on the pay per view and the road to WrestleMania, which is very important.

#3 Limited move set

Brock Lesnar is very limited in his storytelling ability
Brock Lesnar is very limited in his storytelling ability

While the idea of Brock Lesnar being in a Royal Rumble match might sound exciting on paper, it becomes less so when you consider what actually takes place during these types of matches. Beyond that, when you consider the amount of time and athleticism it takes to complete a Royal Rumble, it seems outright ridiculous for Lesnar to last long.

If nothing else, competing in the Royal Rumble involves telling a story, and Brock Lesnar's limited move set and heelish nature is only going to further that story so much. Sure, the company can have him go Suplex City on every Superstar that enters that ring, but the fans are going to be more focused on his eventual limitation or win.

That's why WWE needs to take a good look at their hand and realize that Lesnar is not capable of telling a 40, 50 or an hour long story inside the ring. In all honesty, his personality and his limited storytelling abilities are Lesnar's two biggest drawbacks and they would be on full display if WWE had him go long.

#2 chance for a shocking elimination

Who will make a name for themselves off of Brock Lesnar at the Royal Rumble?
Who will make a name for themselves off of Brock Lesnar at the Royal Rumble?

WWE makes some pretty genius moves when they want to and while some might see Brock Lesnar entering the Royal Rumble as not one of them, the benefits prove otherwise. Furthermore, with the WWE title not on the line and the Royal Rumble match being based on more luck than skill, there's no reason why Lesnar needs to stay in the whole time.

The best part of all this is that WWE has a chance to make a statement here and they get a chance to do so without the usual trappings a regular match would have. For example, if WWE decided to put Lesnar in a regular match, it would almost certainly result in a loss for his challenger, but WWE can avoid that outcome with the Royal Rumble.

In fact, all WWE really has to do is create a moment where Lesnar is either distracted, or temporarily taken out by another Superstar and the company can easily get him out of the match. They can also use that pivotal moment to help establish a new Superstar, create a rivalry going forward and hopefully set up something for WrestleMania 36.

#1 Title not on the line

Keep in mind Brock Lesnar's WWE Title isn't even on the line.
Keep in mind Brock Lesnar's WWE Title isn't even on the line.

While WWE has put the WWE Title on the line in the past during Royal Rumble matches, that doesn't seem to be the case this time around. In fact, it almost seems like WWE is putting Brock Lesnar in the Royal Rumble match as a way to avoid defending his title, and instead focusing on dream encounters with several Superstars.

Where these dream encounters ultimately lead to and how they affect upcoming storylines remains to be seen, but it's probably not going to last very long. Beyond that, with Lesnar's title not on the line and him basically competing in order to not have an opponent at WrestleMania 36, it doesn't need to go on very long either.

In the end Lesnar is a big name and no matter what he does, it's going to garner a certain level of attention. With that being said, the title not being on the line seems to point to WWE wanting to get him out of the match relatively quickly after some kind of surprise elimination.
