5 reasons why Finn Balor could turn heel at Royal Rumble 2019

Last week on Monday Night Raw, Vince McMahon removed Braun Strowman from the Universal Championship picture.

Then a number 1 contender match was booked for the title between John Cena, Drew McIntyre, Baron Corbin, and Finn Balor. Balor won that match by pinning John Cena, and now will be facing The Beast at the Royal Rumble.

It will be a big moment for Balor, as he could become the Universal Champion again, but it’s highly unlikely to happen.

Maybe the company is planning to do a change in his character by turning him heel.

Here are 5 reasons why this could happen.

#5 Face Balor hasn’t done anything big in the WWE

When Balor arrived on the main roster, he was getting full support from the creative team, and even won the Universal Championship in a very short time by defeating Seth Rollins. However, he got injured in the match, and then relinquished his title.

Later, he returned to Raw after WrestleMania 33, and since then, the company hasn’t used him the way they should. Balor has lost many feuds and matches. This has hurt him a lot.

There’s no doubt that face Balor hasn’t done anything significant in the WWE except winning the Universal Championship (for just one day). This could be the reason behind his heel turn at the Royal Rumble. As a heel Balor could achieve a lot in the company.

Remember his run as a heel in New Japan Pro Wrestling?

#4 This will help him keep two different personalities at the same time

Balor's second personality is the Demon King
Balor's second personality is the Demon King

We all know that Finn Balor has two characters. One is his normal side he shows every week, and the second is the Demon King.

We all know that the Demon is very dangerous in the ring, and could dethrone anyone. So why not make him a heel?

It would be great for Balor (as it will help him gain some advantage in the match), and it would also allow him keep two personalities at the same time.

He could just work as usual in his normal persona, but could also come and fight as the Demon King whenever he needs to.

I know this may sound unlikely, but the WWE has done something similar in the past with Mick Foley. He had three faces in his career - Cactus Jack, Mankind, and Dude Love. He used these characters in different ways, and even the fans liked it. The same could happen with Finn Balor as well.

#3 Heel Balor is what the fans want

A heel turn could change everything for Balor
A heel turn could change everything for Balor

Balor has been working as a face in the WWE for a long time. But his current status shows us that he really needs to turn heel in the company.

Currently, Monday Night Raw needs some good heel wrestlers who have the potential to become main event superstars. For now, Drew McIntyre is the only legitimate heel superstar who can become a main eventer on Raw. If Balor would turn heel against Brock Lesnar, then he could fulfil this need of a heel superstar on Raw.

Think about it!

Heel Balor could achieve a lot more than the Finn Balor we have right now. The fans also want to see him as a heel in the company. So why not just do what the WWE Universe wants?

Not everybody would love Balor’s heel turn, but I think a majority of the fans would agree with me that this character change will make things interesting.

#2 He has feuded with almost every heel superstar on Raw

Finn Balor has feuded with many heel wrestlers on Monday Night Raw. He has feuded against the likes of Bobby Lashley, Drew McIntyre, Baron Corbin, Jinder Mahal, and many more.

If we take a look at his previous feuds, then we will observe that he has had a rivalry with almost every heel superstar of Monday Night Raw. The WWE recently announced a change in their products, and turning Balor a heel could help keep this promise.

A heel Finn Balor could feud against the likes of Seth Rollins, Elias, and even Braun Strowman. This would be something new for the WWE Universe, as these rivalries could quickly gain the spotlight.

#1 To become the new Universal Champion

He could again become the champion
He could again become the champion

We all know that Lesnar rarely loses his matches in the WWE. The only match he lost in 2018 was against Roman Reigns at SummerSlam. Roman is a top superstar, and there’s no doubt why he defeated Brock Lesnar.

But saying the same for Finn Balor would be unfair. Balor has already lost many top matches in the company, and it’s highly unlikely that he would defeat Lesnar clean at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

So there’s a possibility that he could turn heel to win this match. He also has a reason to do this.

He is the first ever Universal Champion of the WWE, but had to relinquish the title because of a shoulder injury. Now that he has got a Universal Championship match, he would never want to waste this big opportunity.

Heel wrestlers always hold some advantages in matches, as they could easily cheat to win the bout. If he turns heel and wins the Universal Championship, then it would indeed make his career a lot more exciting.
