5 Reasons why Finn Balor should become the next Universal Champion

The extraordinary man who does extraordinary things has been lost in the mix ever since he made his return to the WWE after relinquishing the WWE Universal Championship due to a shoulder injury. The WWE Universe expected the Irishman to recapture the title within a few months when he returned. However, he has been shockingly discarded as a top-tier Superstar and has been relegated to the midcard of the flagship show. Balor has failed to win even a single championship despite being consistent inside the ring.

He has had multiple Intercontinental Championship matches and also has had a match for the Universal Championship but never has he been able to win when it matters the most. He has had meaningless feuds with Elias, Bray Wyatt and Baron Corbin which did no good to either of the Superstars involved.

Now with Braun Strowman potentially ruled out of the Universal Title picture due to an untimely injury, it seems like Brock Lesnar will have a new challenger for the coveted prize at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

Here are five reasons why Finn Balor should be that next challenger and should dethrone The Beast as the Universal Champion.

#1 RAW needs a Universal Champion who shows up every week

Well, the first and foremost reason why Finn Balor should dethrone Lesnar is that the WWE Universe deserves a champion who shows up every week, unlike the reigning champion who appears once in 1 or 2 months.

Even after he won the title at Crown Jewel, he was not present on RAW until the go-home show of WWE Survivor Series. WWE have to do away with its policy of having part-time champions since it creates dissatisfaction amongst the hard-working superstars in the locker room.

#4 RAW's ratings are dipping constantly

RAW's ratings and viewership numbers are reaching a record low

The ratings of RAW have been on a downfall ever since Brock Lesnar won the Universal Championship as hardly one or two shows have managed to reach the 3 million mark in the year 2018.

Surely, the third hour of the show causes the writers to slow down the pace of the show but the reason why the writers need to keep the pace slow is the absence of their top champion.

Remember the first RAW after the brand split? Well, if you don't then let me remind you, RAW did not seem like a 3-hour show at all and the fans did not notice how the 3 hours passed by because of the excellent content on the show.

Things have not been the same due to some baffling bookings like giving the top championship to someone like Goldberg, Brock Lesnar and keep on pushing Roman Reigns to the moon despite the negative response. However, handing the belt to someone like Balor could help RAW bounce back in the rating department.

#3 The Universal Title needs a champion whom the WWE Universe cheers for

If we look at the Universal Champions other than Balor, two were heels while two were babyfaces who were booed by the WWE Universe

Looking at the other four superstars who have held the Universal title - Kevin Owens was a Superstar who portrayed the character of a cowardly heel champion, Goldberg was someone who was heavily cheered until he won the Universal Title, Brock Lesnar's reign was a test of the WWE Universe's patience while Roman Reigns' promising reign was cut short due to Leukemia. Nevertheless, Reigns was booed by the WWE Universe ahead of his disease revelation.

All of these Superstars received boos from the WWE Universe and thus the Title has never been in the hands of someone who was cheered by the fans. Finn Balor is one of the most popular Superstars in the WWE currently and thus, the WWE fans could finally get a champion whom they can cheer for rather than showering hate on him every week.

#2 This could help the WWE creative make the Demon King more frequent on WWE TV

Finn Balor is one of the few Superstars who has an alter ego and his Demon King avatar is still undefeated in the WWE. The creative team could use Balor's alter ego to help him win the title by defeating Brock Lesnar in the title match. Balor could use this gimmick more frequently as the Universal Champion than he is doing currently.

The Demon King last made a surprise appearance at WWE SummerSlam 2018 where he squashed the Lone Wolf Baron Corbin in a singles match. Balor has defeated the likes of Seth Rollins and AJ Styles with this alter ego and the Demon King needs to appear more frequently to keep its mystique alive as its constant absence could lead to it becoming an afterthought.

#1 Balor should get the title run he was supposed to get after SummerSlam 2016

It is no secret that Finn Balor was destined to have a lengthy reign with the Universal Championship when he won the title at SummerSlam 2016. However, due to an unexpected shoulder injury, the leader of the Balor Club had to relinquish his championship and when he returned, he never got the title run he deserved.

Instead, he was pushed to the midcard and never ever involved in the Universal title picture. Finn's title reign could see him having dream feuds with the top stars like Drew McIntyre, Dolph Ziggler, Dean Ambrose and also AJ Styles in the future.
