5 reasons why Jon Moxley is bad news for WWE

Dean Ambrose left WWE after his contract ended on April 2019. While he himself didn’t reveal the reason for his departure, there were stories of him being frustrated with the direction in which his character was moving forward.

Indeed, that is what Rollins revealed as Ambrose wasn’t happy with the heel turn last October.

“The way that affected Ambrose, that wasn’t really his best look. No one wanted to see us fight each other, we had been through that, it didn’t feel good. I was upset, he was clearly upset and people didn’t want to see it, they wanted to see us be brothers and care about each other," said Rollins to Yahoo Sports.

And now, right after the expiration of his contract with WWE, Ambrose has gone back to his old gimmick – Jon Moxley – and posted a video on Twitter to put the fans in a frenzy.

And this might just be bad news for the WWE – here are 5 reasons why…

#5 His background

Ambrose
Ambrose

Before he joined WWE and became Dean Ambrose, he had already made a name for himself in the independent circuit as Jon Moxley. His character was that of a lunatic (more on that next) and it got really over with the fans.

He held the Full Impact Pro World Heavyweight Championship for 441 days and never lost the title as he relinquished it in 2011 when he joined WWE. Moxley was renowned for his time at Combat Zone Wrestling, where he performed from 2009 to 2011.

He was particularly famous for his often bloody hardcore matches. Moxley’s promo on Twitter, too, saw his hands being gored by barbed wire – which is why fans love the character even more than ‘Dean Ambrose’ – giving a hint that he is…

#4 More Lunatic than Ambrose

The real Lunatic Fringe
The real Lunatic Fringe

WWE fans loved Dean Ambrose when he was at his lunatic best. Everyone remembers how he made Seth Rollins’ life a living hell when the latter sold out to The Authority and turned on his Shield brothers.

They also fondly reminisce how he, with his tongue lolling out and eyes wide open, called Brock Lesnar to come back into the ring just moments after being laid out by an F5.

Be it him disguised as a bunny to attack The Miz, or hiding inside a giant gift box to ambush Rollins, his best moments came in his lunatic character. Now imagine that ‘Lunatic Fringe’ of WWE multiplied 10 times.

That is what you get with Jon Moxley. With him on board, it is a common sight to see blood all around as he pushed the very limit of his being as Jon Moxley.

#3 More creative freedom

The other aspect that fans loved about Moxley – apart from his brutal matches – was how much freedom he had over his character. This is a privilege that most talented performers get in the independent circuit and Moxley was no exception.

And with this freedom, Moxley cut some of the finest promos in the indies and made himself a revered figure. Now, years after dropping the gimmick, he is back with it.

#2 2.0

Improved 2.0
Improved 2.0

Which means, this is 2.0 version and given how talented Jonathan Good (Jon Moxley/Dean Ambrose’s real name) is as a Superstar, there is very high chance that 2.0 of Jon Moxley is going to be better than 1.0.

After all, he got quite a lot of time to rethink the character and make some tweaks that would make it better than ever before.

So far, everything described is about Jon Moxley’s superiority as a character and since he is not in WWE anymore, he could take superiority to another promotion…

#1 AEW

Moxley's next destination?
Moxley's next destination?

And the talk of the town right now is All Elite Wrestling. The company funded by the Khan family has been in the news for a while now and their first PPV, Double or Nothing, is set to take place in Nevada on the 25th of May, 2019.

That is not very far from now and while there is a 90-day non-compete clause for Superstars that leave the WWE, Moxley doesn’t necessarily have to perform at Double or Nothing as he could join after the clause ends.

The bottom-line here is that should Moxley – a better version of Ambrose – join AEW, which is hyped as the promotion that could compete with WWE, it would be a huge boost for them.

It could be the perfect push to AEW as not only is Moxley the superior character and has its own following, hardcore WWE fans’ intrigue about the character would make them pay attention to the promotion where he performs.
