There is a tradition in pro wrestling that anyone who's leaving the territory leaves on his back and does the honors for a bigger star, on the way out. We saw it with AEW Champion Jon Moxley and we also saw it with several others before him.
Matt Hardy was used as fodder in the storyline between Randy Orton and Edge right before he was released by the company and played a vital part in making The Viper look like an absolute deranged individual right on his way out. But that is a role that could have gone to just about any individual on the roster and someone like Matt Hardy honestly deserved better.

There's a case to be made that Matt Hardy has already done enough in the company to warrant a WWE Hall of Fame spot.
And yes, while the idea of getting buried on the way out is an age-old tradition, it was heartbreaking to see Hardy being treated in that fashion by fans.
