5 Reasons why Matt Hardy returned & the Hardy Boyz reunited on WWE SmackDown Live

Why did Matt and Jeff Hardy reunite on the blue brand?
Why did Matt and Jeff Hardy reunite on the blue brand?

WWE has been just great this week, hasn't it? Roman Reigns returned and so did Batista, Becky Lynch got arrested and Kevin Owens returned. And just when it seemed like we had seen it all, the Hardy Boyz returned. Matt Hardy is back from injury and he's back on SmackDown Live.

Wait, why was this team reunited once again? After all, Matt Hardy had been teaming with Bray Wyatt on WWE RAW not long ago. Why did that team come to an untimely end and this team come together suddenly?

The answer is quite obvious if you think about it, very honestly. I shall elaborate on the same in this article.

Share your thoughts in the section below, if you think I've missed out on a point or two.

#5 WrestleMania opponents for The Usos

It is now amply clear that Shane McMahon and The Miz are not a team anymore after their short-lived run. And this means that The Usos need credible opponents for SmackDown Live. And because The Bar has been doing jobs on the blue brand, it is quite clear that they wouldn't be the team for the job, to say it plainly.

We also know that The Usos contracts run out shortly after WrestleMania and to keep them in the company, there is an added emphasis on tag team wrestling right now. WWE can always pit them against The Club or SAnitY but those matches simply aren't big enough. WWE hasn't given them enough screen time for them to be taken seriously.

I really want to see The Usos take on the Hardy Boyz because it feels like a big match. And it also feels like a fresh feud between the old guard and the new one.

#4 Uncertainty about Bray Wyatt's status

I really like Bray Wyatt but I don't know what's up with him at the moment. I had a chance to interview Matt Hardy for Sportskeeda last year and he told me Wyatt will be back soon. Wyatt has even confirmed this on his social media. But he's been on the sidelines for a very long time now.

And we know that he is not even necessarily really injured to be quite honest. I mean Bray Wyatt did show up at WWE Starrcade and compete in a match. He's been part of yet another WWE Live Event since then as well.

I suppose the fact of the matter is that WWE does not have a storyline or feud that Bray Wyatt can potentially step in and add value to. Which is why they got the time tested duo of Matt and Jeff Hardy back together.

#3 Jeff Hardy's singles run was rather underwhelming

This is not a knock on Jeff Hardy whom I consider to be one of the greatest sports entertainers of all time. At the age of 41, he can do things in the ring that people half his age cannot even attempt to do.

But somehow, his singles run on SmackDown Live just always seemed a little flat to me. Even his program with Samoa Joe, which had a very compelling storyline about his past, just seemed to fizzle out with absolutely no fanfare.

A tag team run, the division he helped build not in WWE but even on the independent circuit, will certainly breathe new life into his character again. I daresay that Jeff Hardy needed this alliance a lot more than Matt Hardy did because his run was getting stale.

Let's hope this tag team run is a roaring success.

#2 To allow Bray Wyatt to be a serious character once again

We touched upon the fact that Bray Wyatt has been absent from WWE television for quite some time now. But more importantly, I think it's a good ploy to keep Bray Wyatt and Matt Hardy apart. I just thought that Bray Wyatt was a complete misfit for the 'Woken' role.

Bray Wyatt is one of the most unique characters ever in WWE history, The Undertaker of our generation. And therefore he should revert to his cult leader persona again because the comedy stuff did not really fit his character at all. I would even go as far as to say that he should be on RAW to keep him away from Matt Hardy.

The Hardy Boyz are the best tag team in all time and space, as Matt Hardy keeps saying. And Bray Wyatt being involved in the mix would just dilute them significantly.

#1 The Woken run has ended

Yes, I know that Matt Hardy was still doing the 'delete' sign when he stepped out to compete. But in an interview that was conducted shortly after the show concluded, he confessed to the WWE Universe that he had learned to control the 'woken-ness' inside of him.

What this essentially means is that we've seen the last of the outrageous persona that was first born in TNA and then came over to WWE. And this may be because the old guard at WWE is not really open to an idea that is as outrageous as this one is. They are perhaps fans of a more traditional style of wrestling, in all probability.

I've interacted with Matt Hardy in the past in a face to face interview. He had basically told me that he was glad that he got to do one Deletion style match for the company.

RIP Woken gimmick.
