5 reasons why Samoa Joe's babyface turn is a ploy

It seems like Roman Reigns just can't catch a break. The Big Dog was attacked by someone on a recent episode of SmackDown Live. A structure fell on an unsuspecting Reigns as he was approaching Kayla Braxton for an interview. As the backstage staff urged Reigns to let them tend to him, he said that he is fine and left the spot.

Tonight on Monday Night Raw, Reigns again found himself on the receiving end of an unfortunate incident. As Samoa Joe stormed off towards the parking lot to confront Reigns, The Big Dog was seen stepping out of a vehicle.

Suddenly, a car appeared out of nowhere and rammed into Reigns' SUV. Fortunately, Reigns jumped back into the car just in time. Joe was seen checking on Reigns, hinting at a babyface turn. But is this as simple as it looks on the screen?

Here are 5 arguments for why Samoa Joe is faking his babyface turn and this is all part of a big ruse.

#5 Joe is a natural heel

Joe squashes Mysterio
Joe squashes Mysterio

This storyline isn't as simple as it is being presented by WWE. Samoa Joe is one of the biggest heels on the WWE roster at the moment. This is the same guy who squashed Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 35 and was seen bullying his son in a backstage area.

Joe is someone who is a natural heel, and one just can't see him portray a babyface persona as better as a heel character.

Joe's sheer size, his intimidating presence, and his ability to unleash brutal beatdowns on his opponents is something he has made a career out of. The guy who was seen in the aftermath of the Reigns' incident isn't what Samoa Joe is supposed to be, which makes it less believable.

#4 History repeating itself?

Triple H is revealed as the attacker
Triple H is revealed as the attacker

It's a norm in professional wrestling that an angle that works and engages the fans is bound to be replicated in the near future. For example, Austin's beer bash on the road to WrestleMania 15 was followed up by Kurt Angle's Milk-O-Mania around two years later.

Remember the D-Generation X reunion from 2002, when Triple H turned heel and betrayed Shawn Michaels? Soon after, someone attacked Michaels in a parking lot and Triple H suddenly became sympathetic of him.

This continued on for a while before Michaels presented the CCTV footage on an episode of Raw and revealed that it was Triple H who attacked him.

This story seems eerily similar to the DX one, with Joe wanting to destroy Reigns, and suddenly feeling concerned about him after the accident. It seems like Joe is involved in what could be a sinister ploy to take out Reigns, playing babyface only for a while, before he strikes at the right time.

#3 Possibility of a new heel stable

Will these two form an alliance?
Will these two form an alliance?

Roman Reigns is currently involved in a major "mystery attacker" storyline, and another layer was added to this angle tonight, in the form of Joe suddenly becoming concerned for Reigns.

As explained before, this just doesn't seem as easy as it looks on TV.

What, however, is believable is the theory that Reigns, being the ultimate babyface, is slowly being tricked by a band of villains who want to put him out for good. The incident on last week's SmackDown Live was just the beginning, and tonight's attack was carried out to compensate for the failure from last week.

Don't be surprised if this angle ends with the big reveal of Joe, and at least a couple of villains (with Daniel Bryan possibly being the central scheming figure) as the mystery attackers of Reigns, resulting in the formation of a new heel stable.

#2 This sudden change of heart doesn't make sense

Does this face scream babyface?
Does this face scream babyface?

It's out there for everyone to see! The ones who have been following this storyline are aware of the fact that Samoa Joe and Roman Reigns have been at each other's throats for a while now. Last week on Monday Night Raw, the Samoan Summit angle ended with a string of Superstars brawling on the entrance stage, with Reigns and Joe going at it throughout the segment.

A week later, Joe is mad at the fact that he has been accused of attacking Reigns, and wants an apology from him for the same. Suddenly, another attack takes place and one of the most dastardly and ruthless heels on the main roster turns into a sympathetic good guy?

It just doesn't work this way, especially if the person in question is someone like Samoa Joe, who not only possesses incredible physical strength, but is also a master at playing mind games, if his feud with AJ Styles in the past is any indication.

#1 A Reigns-Joe alliance just doesn't seem right

These two forming a team is highly unlikely
These two forming a team is highly unlikely

So let's consider the possibility that Joe has actually turned babyface and is genuinely concerned for the well being of his arch-rival Roman Reigns. What would all of this lead to?

The logical course of action on the part of WWE's creative team would be to make Reigns align with Joe and find out who attacked him. This storyline seems ridiculous in the sense that an alliance between Samoa Joe and Roman Reigns just doesn't scream exciting.

With Reigns being pushed as a lone wolf top guy, this alliance wouldn't even last for long and The Big Dog would go his own way soon, leaving a babyface Joe on his own, dangling again on the mid-card.

What does make sense is that Joe could align with Reigns, the mystery attackers could be revealed as Daniel Bryan and Rowan, which would be followed by a tag team match where Joe could turn on Reigns and form an alliance with the villains.
