5 Reasons why Seth Rollins used Triple H's Pedigree at WWE Clash of Champions 2019

Why did Seth Rollins pull out Triple H's move at Clash of Champions?
Why did Seth Rollins pull out Triple H's move at Clash of Champions?

Seth Rollins shocked the world last night when he pulled out a Pedigree in order to defeat Braun Strowman in their Universal Championship match. Strowman had already taken three stomps before Rollins resorted to a move that is most associated with Triple H which could be a hint for Rollins' future.

The current Universal Champion used The Pedigree throughout his feud with Triple H back in 2017 and when The Curb Stomp was banned by WWE following his World title victory at WrestleMania 31.

Rollins dropped the move following his win over his mentor at WrestleMania 33 and has since been able to resort back to using the move that he made famous as The Blackout on the Indies, but last night something changed. Did Rollins pull out the move as a hint of things to come or was this just Rollins's way of showing his mentor that he can still use that move whenever he wants?

#5 A last resort?

Rollins won the World Championship for the first time using the Curb Stomp and has so far been able to defeat Brock Lesnar on two occasions using the move, but last night at Clash of Champions Rollins was aware that the Curb Stomp wasn't enough.

The last time that Rollins wasn't able to win a match using the Curb Stomp was against Triple H at WrestleMania 33 in one of his biggest matches to date but he was able to pull out Triple H's move against him and pick up the win.

It's entirely feasible that Rollins realized that three Curb Stomps had put down Brock Lesnar but wasn't enough to keep Braun Strowman down for the three counts so he decided to pull out the only devastating move that he knew could finish the match before hitting a fourth stomp and retaining.

#4 All eyes on Triple H?

All eyes will be on Triple H this week
All eyes will be on Triple H this week

Triple H wasn't part of Clash of Champions last night in North Carolina, but this is still a huge week for the former World Champion, so he deserves all eyes to be on him. The Game is the man who has made NXT the product that it currently is and Seth Rollins is the man who is considered to be his greatest creation.

NXT goes live on the USA Network for the first time on Wednesday night and will then challenge AEW in the coming months as The Wednesday Night Wars seemingly begin. Adverts for the show on September 18th aired throughout the show, but Rollins could have decided to use Triple H's move to get the general public talking ahead of the move over to the Network since NXT is where it all started for Rollins.

It's been more than two years since Rollins pulled out the move that The Game made famous and it appears that if it was to promote the brains behind NXT as part of the biggest week in their history, then it definitely worked since he has the WWE Universe talking.

#3 Triple H return?

Will Triple H return to help Seth Rollins if he's forced to battle the odds?
Will Triple H return to help Seth Rollins if he's forced to battle the odds?

Seth Rollins and Triple H have had their issues over the years, but it's thought that they have now reached the point where they are on the same page and since Rollins can't call upon his Shield teammates to help him in the future he could resort to contacting The Game instead.

Triple H hasn't been seen on WWE TV since he battled Batista at WrestleMania a few months ago but given the fact that Bray Wyatt's fiend decided to attack Rollins following his match with Braun Strowman, he could need some help.

Strowman and Wyatt have worked together before and could be on the same page once again, but Rollins has no friends, so if Wyatt and The Monster Among Men decide to team up against The Architect, then Rollins could need the help of someone like Triple H.

After all, Rollins is the main Champion on the Raw brand and Triple H was one of his greatest rivals so it's hard to imagine that he wouldn't step up and help if Rollins put in the call following Hell in a Cell.

#2 Triple H passing the torch?

Triple H and Seth Rollins have been close friends for a number of years
Triple H and Seth Rollins have been close friends for a number of years

Triple H defeated Batista in his last WWE match at WrestleMania, but it's obvious that his career is now winding down. When NXT goes live on Wednesday night Triple H will take on a lot more responsibility and it could mark the end of his in-ring career aside from big WrestleMania matches that The Game decides to be part of each year.

This means that Triple H and Seth Rollins could have already talked about his retirement and The Game could have decided to give the move to Rollins. After all, Rollins is considered to be Triple H's greatest creation, Rollins helped to launch NXT and was their first-ever Champion, he is also easily considered to be the most successful former member of the developmental brand so why wouldn't Triple H see him as the next version of him?

Triple H could have decided that it was time that the move is used more often on WWE TV and Rollins definitely needed something to set up The Stomp consistently so he gave him the move and told him to use it wisely.

#1 Is Seth Rollins about to turn heel?

The most obvious reason that Rollins could have decided to pull out the Pedigree last night could be because a heel turn is coming. This makes sense anyway, many fans are getting fed up of the way that WWE has been booking Rollins to easily get past the likes of Brock Lesnar, AJ Styles and now Braun Strowman so a heel turn could be forced.

Right now Rollins is seen as the face heading into his potential match against The Fiend at Hell in a Cell but if Braun Strowman decides to go back after the Universal Champion heading into November's Survivor Series, then he could be the heel in that match.

Strowman has been built up to the point where he could be seen as the face in the match since he's been fighting for so long to become a singles Champion. But, Rollins has been able to pick up a number of impressive victories over The Monster Among Men despite being twice his size. At some point, the WWE Universe will turn on Rollins and The Pedigree could be the symbol to say that WWE is aware of this.
