What was WWE's thinking behind booking Becky vs Charlotte?

This week's episode of RAW saw some big developments in the WWE Universe. Not only is The Shield back together but they're all set to face Drew McIntyre, Baron Corbin and Bobby Lashley at WWE Fastlane. Another huge match WWE booked for Fastlane was for the vacant RAW Women's Championship, Becky Lynch will now face Charlotte. However, Stephanie McMahon would alter the match later on after she gave the title back to Rousey.

If Lynch defeats Flair at Fastlane, she gets added to the triple threat match at WrestleMania. It's as simple as that.

Fastlane is the last PPV before WrestleMania 35 and this could be one of the most consequential Fastlane PPV's ever. What happens at Fastlane could have big consequences for the WrestleMania card including for Mania plans for the RAW Women's Championship.

There could be a number of reasons why WWE booked Becky Lynch to take on Charlotte at WWE Fastlane. In this article, we discuss 5 possible reasons behind WWE's decision. Please feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments section.

#5. A possible change in WrestleMania plans

As far as we knew headed into WrestleMania, the plan for WWE was to have a triple threat match for the RAW Women's Championship at WrestleMania with Ronda Rousey, Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch fighting over the title. However, the match most WWE fans wanted to see was Becky Lynch taking on Ronda Rousey in a singles match.

One reason why WWE may have booked Becky vs Charlotte fo Fastlane is to add Becky Lynch to the title match at WrestleMania. I mean it's obvious, WWE said it themselves. If Becky Lynch wins the match she gets added to WrestleMania and its a triple threat for the RAW Women's Championship.

#4. Fastlane needed another big match

WWE Fastlane is usually one of the most inconsequential PPV's on the WWE calendar since it's right before WrestleMania and WWE don't usually rock the boat so close to Mania.

This year's Fastlane needed another top match and Becky versus Charlotte is easily one of the biggest matches on the card. The stakes are high for this one as Lynch's WrestleMania dreams hang in the balance. The match itself will be stellar with Becky and Charlotte two of the best women's wrestlers in the world.

We've already seen what they can do when they're in the ring together and this should be one of their best matches yet.

#3. It's all part of the plan

This seems to be all a part of WWE's plan to naturally move towards a triple threat match at WrestleMania. We know that Ronda Rousey sort of turned heel on RAW. This could all be a part of WWE's plan.

To book a triple threat match for WrestleMania, the only thing WWE has to do now is to book Lynch to go over Charlotte at Fastlane. It's the easiest and most effective way of setting up and the match and that's what WWE seems to be doing.

#2. To make Becky an even bigger underdog

Becky Lynch is the babyface going into WrestleMania, the clear babyface following Ronda Rousey's sort of heel turn. Booking an injured Becky against Charlotte could be WWE's way of getting more sympathy on her but in my opinion.

Rousey brutalized Becky Lynch at the end of WWE RAW and now she has a truly uphill battle ahead of her at WrestleMania.

#1. Stephanie has special plans for Fastlane

If you notice what Stephanie McMahon told Charlie Caruso shortly after announcing Becky Lynch's suspension being lifted, she mentioned that Lynch would have to sign a Hold Harmless Agreement before her match at Fastlane.

This makes me think that Stephanie McMahon could be orchestrating something for Fastlane. Don't be surprised if Stephanie gets a few members of the women's division together to lay Becky out and 'make sure she can't compete' at WrestleMania.
