Su Yung and Rosemary have been enemies and allies... .sort of.

While the WWE has an extremely talented roster of women, not all of those women are used to their fullest. Some are used to put others over. Someone like Ruby Riott, who is immensely unique and talented in the ring, has had little in the ways of pushes. A good way to remedy that is to have someone tweak or completely change his/her gimmick.

A character similar to Fiend has been done before albeit in different ways. At least half of Lucha Underground's roster was supernatural or had otherworldly abilities. They were still professional wrestlers but had incredible and in-depth backstories other than "is a good in-ring worker and is pretty."

In Lucha Underground, the likes of Catrina and Kobra Moon had mysterious and mystical backgrounds that made them stand out from other in-ring ladies like Ivelisse and Sexy Star. In IMPACT, perhaps the greatest success of a female character similar to the Fiend or Undertaker has to be Rosemary. She initially started out as a heel with the Decay but was so good at her work that she eventually became a good guy as the Demon Assassin. I'll let those unfamiliar with that angle figure it out for themselves. Rosemary has traveled to the "Undead Realm" and has battled other ladies with supernatural proclivities like Su Yung and Havok.

The most recent episodes have seen Rosemary save both women from the "Undead Realm" while also trying to collect souls. The simple fact is that other stars have proven that they can have success with these types or dark characters in other companies.
