5 Reasons why WWE released multiple Superstars recently- TJP, Itami & Dillinger

Why is it 'clean up season' in WWE all of a sudden?
Why is it 'clean up season' in WWE all of a sudden?

Many were shocked when the news first broke. Not one, not two, but three superstars were recently released from the WWE. They are Tye Dillinger, Hideo Itami, and TJP. Not long before that Arn Anderson, who worked backstage with WWE was released as well. Everybody's been wondering why this is the case.

I do not work backstage with WWE and so, cannot provide you with specifics. But I've been working in this industry and following the product for some time, so I have a fair idea. I'll try and shed more light on this situation through this article.

Please share your thoughts and views in the comments. At the outset, I want to wish all of these men all the best in their future endeavors.

Here is the reason why they may have been released.

#5 A spring clean-up happens annually

This is not the first time a bunch of superstars have been let go at once
This is not the first time a bunch of superstars have been let go at once

While this may be a surprising development for new fans of the product, WWE has always let go of a bunch of talent on a near-annual basis. Remember the time two years ago when Darren Young, Emma, and Summer Rae were released all at once? WWE just announces a whole bunch of releases at one time, to make way for new faces to replace them.

The year prior to that it was Wade Barrett, Hornswoggle, Cameron and many others. The idea is to have a fresh roster, and let go of the names who aren't necessarily being used on TV. And this isn't the fault of the talent, but it's always based on the way they've been booked and the opportunities they've been provided.

WWE always has the top athletes in the world vying for the topmost spot. And therefore, there's always more supply than demand every year.

#4 Itami and Dillinger had asked for their releases

It isn't always WWE who lets you go. Sometimes, it's the talent themselves that demand that they are released from their WWE contracts. One needs to remember that even though WWE is still the leading name when it comes to sports entertainment, there is a brand new player in town and it is called All Elite Wrestling.

We know that Tye Dillinger had asked for his release, and you can read his statement in the post linked above. Similarly, Fightful.com had reported that Hideo Itami had asked to be released from his contract too. Both of these individuals must have seen others not just survive but thrive outside the WWE bubble.

Itami may not necessarily sign with AEW and could head back home to Japan. Whatever the case may be, these men are immensely gifted and should carve a path for themselves outside the WWE.

#3 All three were severely underutilized WWE Superstars

There is no doubting the talent of the three men that have been released. But the fact of the matter is that WWE wasn't doing too much with them anyway, with the possible exception of Itami on 205 Live.

None of the three men that were released were household names in the vein of Dean Ambrose or even as well known as Cody Rhodes was, when he left the WWE system. This is especially criminal in the case of TJP, who came in with a lot of fanfare winning the Cruiserweight Classic tournament.

Tye Dillinger on SmackDown Live and Hideo Itami on NXT lost a lot of momentum owing to their injuries. All of the steam that they had dissipated because they had to miss months of action owing to their injuries.

Maybe all three men can reinvent themselves in the independents and return someday!

#2 Ready names in NXT to take their spots

There is no shortage of talents to replace those that have departed for sure
There is no shortage of talents to replace those that have departed for sure

NXT is a readymade factory that spits out talents by the dozen, honed to perfection by a host of skilled instructors. This past week on RAW and SmackDown Live, we saw Ricochet, Ciampa, Gargano, and Aleister Black have great matches. Each of them impressed in their recent main roster outings.

So, if one WWE Superstar decides to leave, another will take his place. This is just the way things are in WWE. Some have even gone on to speculate that WWE doesn't want anyone to become a star like Stone Cold Steve Austin or John Cena anymore because they want the spotlight to be on the brand WWE and not necessarily individual players.

Eric Bischoff even said that Dean Ambrose's departure will not have an impact on the current product. These men, all said and done, are lower on the totem pole.

#1 Vince McMahon believes that the current product is stale

The boss is known to prefer larger sports entertainers

Ultimately, it all comes down to the big boss. Vince McMahon does not believe that the current crop of talent can become stars, according to Wrestling Observer Radio. And therefore, he wants fresh faces to replace the current crop of talent. One way to achieve this is to trim the fat and allow others to step in and take their place.

And this is not a knock on the three men that have been released but they were not Vince McMahon guys. All three of them are smaller individuals than the kind of superstars that Vince McMahon is traditionally known to push. He probably felt that there are others, maybe even in the same weight class, who will get over with the WWE Universe.

Sometimes, it's the inability of WWE to spot the talent in certain Superstars that severely impairs them. Remember how hot the crowd once was for Tye Dillinger, drowning him in thunderous 'ten' chants?

And those were the five reasons I believe that they were let go.
