#2. Ric Flair cut an unscripted promo on WWE RAW

On a recent edition of the Dropkick DiSKussions podcast, Tom Colohue reported that the WWE RAW segment between Ric Flair and Randy Orton, which ended with the Legend Killer turning on the Nature Boy, was unscripted.

"As such, we had quite a real promo from both men because they didn't have much to go on. They weren't given much writing to essentially say, 'go on out there and hit these exact notes'. So that's close to very real promos from both guys, with some editing where they would write off a few lines and so on and so forth."

The impromptu segment, including Randy Orton's promo, was all the result of a last-minute plan from WWE.

Randy Orton confirmed during a recent conference call before WWE SummerSlam that there was one big unscripted moment during the segment. The 16-time world champion was never supposed to take the microphone.

Here's what Orton said about the unplanned moment from the segment on WWE RAW:

"I'll tell you what he was never supposed to grab the microphone from me that night. He was just supposed to say a few things under his breath that the handheld camera in the ring may or may not pick up. You were supposed to see our facial expressions and get an idea that he was bringing me back in & eventually we had the hug, and I turned on him, but when he grabbed the mic I was thinking, 'Ah, come on Ric you're not supposed to grab the mic,' but then he went on to cut that promo, and it was very touching. "The thing is he meant everything he said. That's why he's so special to this business, he's always left his heart out there in the ring and every emotion you get out there from Ric Flair, it's real, and that's one of the reasons he's the best."
