Mere days away from WrestleMania 27, Finlay agreed to the idea of WWE Champion The Miz interrupting the U.S. National Anthem, to get heat from the crowd.
Whilst the plan certainly worked, members of the National Guard (a WWE sponsor), who were attending too great offence to this.

Finlay was quickly released from the company, though has since returned.
In an interview with British tabloid The Sun, the Irishman explained himself:
"It wasn’t intended to insult anybody in that way it was just part of an entertaining show. That’s what we do; we entertain. It’s about cheers and boos.”
