Sheamus won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship by defeating Daniel Bryan at WWE WrestleMania XXVIII

The WWE Universe was certainly none too pleased when Sheamus quickly dispatched Daniel Bryan to open WrestleMania 28 in 2012. However, it was arguably the best thing to happen to Bryan's career because it was on this very night that the YES! Movement was born.

Daniel Bryan had been the WWE World Heavyweight Champion on SmackDown since cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase in December of the prior year. However, the once babyface Bryan had slowly turned into an annoying, insufferable heel as champion.

Bryan also entered an on-screen relationship with AJ Lee, who he would often manipulate to help him win his matches and retain his championship.

Sheamus, fresh from his 2012 Royal Rumble match victory, had chosen to challenge Daniel Bryan for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the Grandest Stage of Them All.

The WWE Universe was thrilled to see Daniel Bryan, widely regarded as one of the best in-ring performers of his generation, finally be in a major world title match at WrestleMania. However, things took an unexpected turn at The Showcase of the Immortals.

The WWE World Heavyweight Championship match between Daniel Bryan and Sheamus opened the show. Once the bell rang, Bryan called AJ Lee up to the apron to give him a good luck kiss.

Once the couple had smooched, Sheamus surprised Bryan by hitting him with a Brogue Kick for a shock victory in just 18 seconds, becoming the new World Heavyweight Champion in the process.

Fans were shocked, upset, and confused at what they had witnessed. However, the following night on Monday Night RAW, the crowd loudly chanted Daniel Bryan's "YES!" for the majority of the broadcast. This indicated that despite Bryan's shocking defeat, he had become an even bigger WWE Superstar in the process.
