5 signs this will be The Fiend's only Universal Championship run

The Fiend continues to haunt the WWE Universe
The Fiend continues to haunt the WWE Universe

There are very few fans that you'll find who don't absolutely love The Fiend Bray Wyatt. The split personality gimmick that he's been parading around with since the weeks following WrestleMania 35 has done wonders for his trajectory, with Wyatt firmly establishing himself as one of the biggest stars of his generation.

He currently holds the Universal Championship and as we look ahead to the future, it's interesting to contemplate what Bray will go on to do in WWE - which is saying something, given how much he's already achieved.

We tend to believe that this could be the one and only time he holds the title, and we've got more than a few reasons as to why we think that.

Sure, we could be proven wrong in a big way by the time Bray's career comes to an end, and we're willing to take that risk (alongside the possibility of us having to "let him in").

#1 Custom title

The Fiend has his own special creation
The Fiend has his own special creation

Regardless of what you may think or feel about the custom Universal Championship belt that Bray Wyatt has had made for The Fiend, there's no denying the fact that it grabs your attention.

However, we can't imagine they'd do all of this if he was going to hold the belt multiple times in the future. We know that long-term booking isn't a key strength for WWE, but there is definitely a feeling that this is a 'one and done' if only because WWE probably wouldn't introduce this title back into the mix again, much like Daniel Bryan's custom title from last year.

The Fiend is the sort of monster character that should drift into the darkness for a while after being defeated, and we think that's what will happen, taking the custom title with him.

#2 WrestleMania build-up

WrestleMania is right around the corner
WrestleMania is right around the corner

If this was a nothing reign that started after Mania and only lasted through until SummerSlam or perhaps even before that, we could understand why WWE would want to give a character of Bray's stature another crack of the whip.

In this instance, though, with WrestleMania 36 being right around the corner, it seems like the perfect time to blow off a story that has been ongoing for nearly a year now - by the time WrestleMania rolls around, that is.

When you get beaten on the Grandest Stage of Them All and lose your world title, there is every chance you will come back and win it again. With The Fiend, though, he's such a demented character that we feel like a definitive loss would make him rising back up through the ranks a little harder to believe.

WWE has proven us wrong before, but whoever faces off against Bray Wyatt in Tampa should be given the rub of really taken him down a level or two.

We've just got this feeling that 'change' is coming for him - which we'll expand on shortly.

#3 The only heavily featured champ

Brock still isn't particularly active
Brock still isn't particularly active

In the years to come, we're almost certainly going to have two world champions that feature heavily on WWE programming every single week in the lead-up to WrestleMania. This time around, though, with Brock Lesnar holding the WWE Championship, fans have been looking towards Bray Wyatt as the only champion on the main roster that is showing up week in, and week out.

Because of the gravity of The Fiend's character and everything that comes with it, we just feel like you can only really put that sort of emphasis on him once in a WrestleMania type of setting - in our opinion.

Plus, with this being his debut year in the role everything still feels really fresh. Whether or not that's going to be the case heading into WrestleMania 37 and beyond is a different matter altogether, but right now, he's the main player and nobody else really comes close.

Obviously there's always the possibility of Lesnar winning the Rumble and attempting to unify the belts by facing off against The Fiend, but we're choosing to believe that won't happen.

#4 Potential character shift

What could be next for Bray Wyatt?
What could be next for Bray Wyatt?

There's quite a lot you can do with both Bray Wyatt and The Fiend as a character now that we know there's a 'split personality' element to proceedings. WWE doesn't just have to exclusively stick with The Fiend, and instead, they could open up the door and let in multiple other characters, expanding the Wyatt Universe to the point where nobody knows who he's going to show up as from week to week.

If The Fiend ends up losing the Universal Championship within the next few months, Wyatt could go on to promise us all that we haven't seen anything yet. From bringing other disciples into the mix to just generally going very 'out there' with the sort of characters he creates, there are plenty of reasons to get excited.

Maybe The Fiend will be a standout member of the roster for the next decade or so, but something tells us that his persona just won't translate well over a long period of time as The Undertaker's did for so long (and continues to do).

#5 WWE Championship

The big one
The big one

While we, alongside the masses, have been enjoying Bray's time on SmackDown, we really do believe the aesthetic of The Fiend suits Monday Night RAW so much more.

So then, if and when he loses the Universal Championship, we think WWE's best bet for keeping him fresh would be to move him over to the flagship show. There would be a whole host of new stars for him to feud with on a month to month basis, and eventually, he could capture the WWE Championship.

The prestige of the belt would ensure that it feels like the title is being 'held hostage', especially if he winds up taking it from Brock Lesnar.

Wyatt's previous run with the WWE Championship took place back in 2017 and lasted for the better part of a month before Randy Orton stuck a dagger deep into the heart of that title reign.

Redemption should be the name of the game here for The Fiend, mainly because we can't even begin to imagine what his custom WWE title belt would look like.
