5 Signs WWE plans for Otis to lose the Money in the Bank briefcase

WWE doesn't seem to know what to do with current the Money in the Bank briefcase holder Otis.

It's been months since Otis won the WWE Money in the Bank briefcase and while many fans thought that he would eventually cash in, that hasn't happened yet. Instead, Otis is barely mentioned on television and he is now embroiled in a feud with The Miz and John Morrison over his Money in the Bank contract.

With that being said, Otis steadily starting to lose momentum and one has to wonder if the company is simply giving up on him. Now that Mandy Rose is moving to RAW and The Miz is trying to void Otis's contract, does WWE even intend for him to cash in or will he lose it somehow?

Whether WWE actually goes through with that plan or not remains to be seen. It will depend on what their actual intentions are, but here are five signs they have no intention of going through with Otis's cash in. As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments below and tell us if you would like to see Otis as champion or not.

#5. WWE wants a better option

WWE has a lot of better options for who should be the money in the bank briefcase holder
WWE has a lot of better options for who should be the money in the bank briefcase holder

It's no secret that the WWE Universe was shocked when Otis won the Money in the Bank briefcase earlier this year. While the company did tease a few potential cash-ins, they didn't follow up on them. In fact, it's almost like WWE is reconsidering their decision, which means they need a substitute.

Interestingly enough, The Miz and John Morrison seem to be those substitutes, especially since they are trying to find a way to take the briefcase from Otis. One of them could eventually become a champion. There are probably even better options out there but giving one of them the Money in the Bank contract would create an interesting rift.

In the end, Otis just adds no gravity to the title picture at all. He's a nonfactor and it would be hard to believe that the company would put the Universal title on him. Unfortunately, a failed cash-in will hurt his momentum and that's why they want him to drop the briefcase instead.

#4. WWE doesn't believe in Otis vs. Roman Reigns.

Roman Reigns versus Otis would be a worst-case scenario for WWE.
Roman Reigns versus Otis would be a worst-case scenario for WWE.

Roman Reigns versus Otis isn't a road WWE wants to go down and that's probably the reason why the company is trying to take the briefcase away from him. At least that way, WWE doesn't have to try to put Otis up against Roman Reigns and risk Reigns picking up nuclear heat with fans.

Reigns is a heel now, so generating heat is a big part of his role. However, beating Otis decisively might make fans angry. Otis is a fan favorite and Reigns is the current champion. WWE might want to avoid this match for the time being and do something else with Otis and the briefcase.

It could be trickery from The Miz or some bizarre bet where Otis puts his briefcase on the line, but WWE needs to give the briefcase to someone else. They're running the risk of setting Roman Reigns' title reign up to fail and burying one of their most promising babyface talents in the process.

#3. WWE doesn't want Otis' cash-in to hurt the title picture

WWE knows that putting Otis in the title picture would hurt things.

Whether WWE fans like it or not, Otis's character is meant to be a joke and he's not someone who would be taken seriously in an actual title picture. Now, that might seem a little mean, but how would WWE ever justify putting him anywhere near the Universal title?

Now that Mandy Rose has been traded to Monday Night RAW and The Miz closing in on his briefcase, the writing is on the wall that they don't want Otis to cash in. Why else would they go to such lengths to keep Otis away from the title picture if they wanted him as their champion?

If nothing else, WWE is trying to do anything they can to make sure Otis doesn't try to cash in on Roman Reigns. That is probably why The Miz will end up with the Money in the Bank contract. John Morrison could also end up with the briefcase and this will prompt one of the two to turn on the other. Anything is better than inserting Otis into the title picture.

#2. WWE hasn't teased a cash-in recently

WWE hasn't teased a Money in the Bank cash-in for a while now.
WWE hasn't teased a Money in the Bank cash-in for a while now.

When is the last time WWE has teased that Otis will actually cash in his contract? Believe it or not, they hardly even mention him at this point. The company just put him back on television a few weeks ago. Not only is that unprecedented in this position, but it also kind of shows how interested WWE is in this storyline.

Unfortunately for Otis, who was becoming one of the company's top babyfaces over on Friday Night SmackDown, WWE hasn't done much with him since he won the Money in the Bank Ladder Match. Mandy Rose is moving to Monday Night RAW, which separates them.

In the end, WWE seems to have no intention of even entertaining a cash-in from Otis at the moment. He could lose the contract to another superstar, but it doesn't look like WWE wants to go forward with plans for Otis.

#1. WWE is setting up The Miz to take the briefcase

WWE seems to want John Morisson or The Miz to have the Money in the Bank briefcase.

WWE does a lot of foreshadowing when it comes to their storylines and that seems to be what they are doing with Otis, The Miz, and John Morrison. It would be upsetting to see WWE try to take the briefcase away from Otis after building him up for months, but it might be for the best if it adds weight to the title picture.

Interestingly enough, The Miz apparently has a lawyer that wants to look over the contract, which seems to suggest The Miz or Morrison will steal the briefcase. Of course, this will likely result in a break up between the two longtime friends, but it could be worth it if one of them attains the Money in the Bank contract.

Although The Miz and Morison might have to break up to make this possible, it would be fun to watch either of them go on a singles run with the Money in the Bank briefcase. One of them might even be the one to finally knock Roman Reigns off his perch.
