5 singles matches Shawn Michaels must have on his return

The man has finally returned
The man has finally returned

Thanks to the Chokeslam through the announcing table by the Undertaker, Shawn Michaels has now decided to lace up his boots again. At Crown Jewel, he will fight along with his best friend, Triple H, to take on the team of the Undertaker and Kane, better known as the “Brothers of Destruction”.

Notably, the Hall of Famer was forced to retire by the Undertaker after he suffered defeat in their Streak vs. Career match at WrestleMania 26. Ironically, it is the “Deadman” himself, who has forced him to come out of retirement.

Given that Mr WrestleMania will be on the active roster again, the fans would love to see him compete further than just the upcoming match in Riyadh. He has been retired for nearly eight and a half years, and there are a couple of one-on-one matches which the WWE Universe would be thrilled to see.

Here are the top five matches of that list.

#1 Dolph Ziggler – Past vs. the Present

This would a battle of identities.
This would a battle of identities.

In the last couple of years, Dolph Ziggler has been carrying his own character as Shawn Michaels’. The way he talks, the way he walks, not to mention the Super Kick, are all the pages from the legend’s playbook.

It will be poetic justice to have him compete against the man who was the original one in doing all these things. Further, the match can be promoted based on the sheer fact that the “Showstopper” takes an exception to the “Show-Off” in the way he has portrayed him for years.

Although Dolph Ziggler and HBK both have their hands full as of now in separate storylines, this match could definitely be penned down in a couple of months time. Considering the pace at which the things are going as of late, Royal Rumble seems like the perfect time for these two men have a go at each other.

#2 The Undertaker – Respect vs. the Retirement

This is the writing on the wall

Shawn Michaels stayed out of the squared circle honouring his retirement based on the respect he had for the Undertaker. However, last week on Raw, he mentioned that he has lost the respect for the “Phenom” after he attacked him at the Super Show-Down.

Hence, it will be fitting to see these two legends compete in one more match. This way, the story would have come the full circle.

Besides, it won’t make much sense for HBK to compete in any other singles match until he faces the Undertaker in one. This is something which he and WWE ought to do.

#3 AJ Styles – The Dream Match

One of the most anticipated by wrestling fans

Shawn Michaels retired much before AJ Styles even stepped foot inside the WWE ring. However, the wrestling fans around the world have already been speculating for this dream match for a long time now.

As of now, both these Superstars are on different rosters with AJ Styles holding the WWE Championship on Tuesday nights. Hence, this match would also serve as a great way to bring the “Phenomenal One” to the Monday nights, which also happen to be the flagship show of the company.

WrestleMania is famous for treating fans to an icon vs. icon match each year. Well, this could be the one for WrestleMania 35.

#4 The Rock – The match that never happened

Finally...
Finally...

When Shawn Michaels made his return earlier in 2002, he was originally expected to compete against the Rock. However, the “Great One” wasn’t much excited about the storyline, and the idea was tanked.

It has been close to two decades now since then, and both these Superstars have been on different paths in their careers. A lot is said and written about the reasons this match never happened in the first place, but there is also a quote which Vince McMahon loves to say, “Never say Never”.

Truth be told, this is the one match from which the fans have been deprived of. It will be spectacular to witness this thing finally becoming a reality.

#5 Triple H – The final Game

This could be the final chapter.
This could be the final chapter.

Over the years, these two men have been part of one of the most dominant groups, the most heated rivalries, and also the most cherished friendships in WWE. They have contested in a steel cage match, Hell in a Cell match, ladder match, the Last Man Standing match, just to name a few.

Since the DX reunion took place in 2006 after four years of their intense rivalry, the men never turned their backs on each other. However, the intensity they both brought together in the ring while competing against one another is second to none

There were a couple of nostalgic moments during the “Last Time Ever” match, a lot more would be there if this match indeed takes place.
