Since signing with AEW, Lee has once again found his rhythm back and was even pushed as a top contender, challenging Jon Moxley for the AEW Title, within the first few months after his debut. Lee wasn't able to win the World Title off Moxley but did put up one of the best matches of 2020 along with his former WWE colleague. Lee, however, did reveal on Chris Jericho's Talk Is Jericho podcast that he had several confrontations with Vince McMahon and pitched several creative ideas to the WWE Chairman in order to make changes to his Luke Harper character.

However, Vince McMahon didn't buy any of those ideas and Harper eventually found himself out of the company by 2019 after competing in his last televised match at the Crown Jewel pay-per-view.
