5 Superstars other than Lesnar who should retire Goldberg

goldberg
How long does Goldberg have left?

Despite being the Universal Champion, there's no doubt in anyone's mind that Goldberg is coming to the end of his wrestling career. That seems odd to say, considering he hasn't really been back for all that long, but many knew that this was going to be a short tenure with some thinking he may only work Survivor Series before riding off into the sunset.

Thankfully we've had a slightly more extended run, with the former WCW legend heading into WrestleMania 33 to defend his title against Brock Lesnar. Whilst that bout does scream "main event", we aren't big fans of Brock being the man to put Goldberg away once and for all.

We're so against it, in fact - that we've come up with a few alternatives who should be rewarded with that honour.

Obviously, that'd mean Goldberg coming back later on in 2017 or potentially even at WrestleMania 34, but so long as he stays in shape and doesn't get injured that shouldn't be too much of a problem. Besides, it's starting to feel more and more like the New Orleans event next year will signal the end of quite a few old school tenures in the company.

With that being said, here are five Superstars other than Lesnar who should retire Goldberg.

#5 Kurt Angle

angle
Despite the chants, Angle most certainly does not suck

This one sounds a little bit odd, but it works into the idea of two legends going out together. Plus, wouldn't a retirement vs. retirement stipulation within this match be great with Angle riding off into the sunset afterwards anyway?

Seeing Goldberg being put in a vulnerable position with the Ankle Lock would be an iconic sight, and it's an intriguing feud to consider.

The two men were big parts of the Monday Night Wars, however, the storyline could revolve around Angle's wrestling past vs. Goldberg's football past. Two different styles that both led them down the same path of professional wrestling, ending up with a match between the two legends at WrestleMania. Tell us you wouldn't want to see that.

From one icon to another.

#4 The Undertaker

taker
Taker vs Goldberg could be interesting

This one has been teased ever since the Royal Rumble, with many people choosing to believe that ‘Taker vs. Goldberg would actually take place this year in Orlando. Unfortunately, that's not going to be the case, however, it's a match-up that many people have pondered over for quite some time.

After all, the two men possess two of the greatest streaks in the history of the business.

Plus, over the course of their careers, it's one of those matches that people have always wondered about. After all, Goldberg has never been known for his skill or ability inside the ring but Undertaker has always been more than capable of dragging anyone to a good match. ‘Taker being the man to end Goldberg's dreams would be a fitting end to his journey.

Onto a man who Goldberg knows quite well.

#3 Kevin Owens

owens
Owens deserves a shot at revenge

Many people are still angry about Goldberg's convincing victory over Kevin Owens, but we'd like to think that it's only just the beginning. After all, Owens deserves a rematch at some point down the line and they could easily build up the idea that it was only because of Jericho that Owens lost - mainly because that's exactly what happened.

Owens wouldn't necessarily squash Goldberg, but a ruthless display that ends with a decisive victory would do wonders for the former Universal Champion when it comes to furthering his career. You could even have him retirement simply due to injuries as opposed to slapping a retirement stipulation on there.

Just think of the heat Owens would get from old school fans because of that. Joe crush.

#2 Samoa Joe

joe
Joe would provide Goldberg with a tough test

Samoa Joe is one of the most dominant Superstars to ever walk through the door of WWE, and the best part is that he's only just getting started. The Samoan submission machine has made an instant impact since arriving on the main roster, and a great way to continue that momentum would be for him to choke the living daylights out of the legendary Goldberg.

It sounds a little bit harsh when you put it that way, but Joe would be a huge threat to the former WCW Champion even before the bell rings. Everyone knows what an extraordinary talent he is and whilst people have long since wondered why he hasn't been in WWE for years, they can still use him to his fullest capabilities by having him go over a guy like Goldberg.

We conclude with a selection that will irritate the masses.

#1 Roman Reigns

reigns
The Big Dog vs The Unstoppable Force

Roman Reigns is going to be a star in the world of professional wrestling and we all just need to accept that. Once he finally turns heel and then reverts back to being a babyface, he'll be on the road towards becoming one of the biggest names in the company - much like his cousin The Rock.

However, putting aside his ‘Taker feud, for now, we'd like to see a spear vs. spear match-up before Goldberg finally hangs up his boots.

It's a match that has been teased before and it's probably the one that makes the most sense aside from the Lesnar trilogy bout. After all, Reigns and Goldberg are two of the most imposing figures in the history of the business and they draw close comparisons at times regarding their in ring work.

It'd be a huge match up, and you can just imagine the reaction to Reigns winning.
