5 surprise entrants we want to see in the Royal Rumble 2018

CM Punk
Could this be the return of the fan favourite?

Royal Rumble is one of the most exciting events in WWE. It is considered as the beginning of the Road to Wrestlemania. The winner gets a chance to face the World Champion of his choice at the grandest stage of all.

One of the most exciting things about this event is the surprise entrants.Throughout the years, we have seen many surprise entrants including John Cena in the Royal Rumble 2008, Edge in the Royal Rumble 2010 and AJ Styles in the Royal Rumble 2016. With this year's Royal Rumble around the corner, we look at five superstars we would love to be part of the mega event.

#5 Neville

Since his return in late 2016, Neville has proved that he is one of the best wrestlers in the world. "The Man that Gravity Forgot" can put up a great match with literally anyone. However, he reportedly walked out of the company shortly after losing the Cruiserweight championship. Everybody believed that losing the title would open the doors to bigger things in WWE.

However, it turned out to be exactly opposite of what we thought. At one point, it was considered that Neville is almost done with the company. However, recent reports claim that we might still see him in WWE. What better than seeing The King of Cruiserweights in the Royal Rumble to finally kick off his career outside the 205 division.

#4 Rey Mysterio

Rey Mysterio is arguably the best high flyer in WWE. The 'biggest little man' has been a babyface and a fan favourite throughout his career except when the fans jeered him for being the final entrant in the 2014 Royal Rumble.

His last appearance in WWE was on April 7, 2014. On February 26, 2015, WWE announced they have not renewed Rey Mysterio's contract ending his 13-year stay with the company.

In December 2015, "The Master of 619" signed with Lucha Underground after a brief stint in the independent circuit. In an interview with Title Match Wrestling, Rey Mysterio did not rule out the chances of returning to WWE but he feels satisfied in Lucha Underground. Everyone who has seen Rey Mysterio in WWE before wants him to return for one last run.

#5 Batista

Batista is one of the four big names of the Ohio Valley class of 2002, the others being John Cena, Randy Orton and Brock Lesnar. While the other three are still with the company, "The Animal" was last seen on June 2, 2014, edition of Raw. Batista has done fairly well outside WWE.

The Guardians of Galaxy franchise has been a massive hit and that is probably what made WWE reach out for Batista. His previous return was turned into a disaster, thanks to the massive popularity of Daniel Bryan. However, according to the recent reports, Batista still wants to return back to the company as a full-time wrestler. Even in his last tenure, The Animal did not hesitate in putting other guys over. His passion for professional wrestling even at this age is truly amazing.

#2 Daniel Bryan

Daniel Bryan is a man whose popularity made WWE change all their major plans for the grandest stage of them all, Wrestlemania. Even when not wrestling, "The Yes!" man manages to get the loudest reactions from the crowd.

Daniel Bryan's rise to fame started after Wrestlemania 28, where he lost the World Heavyweight Championship to Sheamus in 18 seconds. The World's Toughest Vegan feels he still has wrestling left in him but WWE might not allow him to risk his life.

Bryan has stated that many doctors have cleared him to return to in-ring action. However, WWE doctors are yet to give the green signal. Although it is too greedy as a fan to ask D-Bry to do something which could really hurt his body, one can not rule out the chance of seeing him wrestle, if only for one night.

#1 CM Punk

If there is anyone who can beat the pop that Daniel Bryan will get, it is CM Punk. "The Voice of the Voiceless" walked out of the company on January 27, 2014. His contract expired and it wasn't renewed. Despite announcing his retirement and claiming that he is done with professional wrestling, fans all around the world are still hoping that one day, they might hear the song, Cult of Personality.

After leaving WWE, the self-proclaimed "Best in the World" signed with UFC. Many questioned his decision and were not sure if it was a brave one or a stupid one. At UFC 203, Punk lost to Mickey Gall at 2:14 via a rear naked choke.

Punk's dismal performance once again opened the discussion of him returning to professional wrestling. The last time we saw "The Second City Saint" in WWE was also Royal Rumble. Coincidence? I think not.
