Backlash could be a show with many massive future implications

could be a show with many massive future implications

One could call Backlash the beginning of a brand new season for WWE programming. True, the Greatest Royal Rumble did follow WrestleMania, but somehow the show did not feel special, with no reward for the Greatest Royal Rumble winner and no title changes.

The company may want to make Backlash a truly grand affair after the mixed reviews for the Greatest Royal Rumble pay-per-view. To achieve the same, they may want to pack the show with several surprises. In this article, we'll get you all excited about Backlash with a glimpse of all the madness that could possibly unfold.

Please leave a comment and let us know which of these you think will actually transpire. The stakes are high as this is the first double-branded WWE pay-per-view.

Here are 5 shocking events that may well transpire...

#5 Sasha Banks costs Bayley her big match

This turn has been a long time coming!
This turn has been a long time
coming
, for sure!

Every week on RAW, we see the passive-aggressiveness between Sasha Banks and Bayley, without any real payoff. We know that Bayley will be wrestling Ruby Riott in the Backlash Kickoff show, kicking off all the action into high gear. Sasha Banks is not even on the card at the moment. Could this be the big Sasha Banks heel turn we've all waited for?

We can totally imagine Banks coming to the ring, only to cost Bayley her match. This could lead to a full-fledged program between Sasha Banks and Bayley that carries all the way to SummerSlam in Brooklyn. After all, Brooklyn is the site of their classic encounter from NXT, not long ago.

A Sasha Banks heel turn may indeed be in everyone's best interests. Be it the fans or the performers themselves, everyone can benefit from this massive turn!

#4 Jason Jordan makes his return

Now, this could be a very interesting event
Now, this could be a very interesting event

We would not be exaggerating if we were to say that Rollins has become RAW's top babyface since he stopped competing as a tag team superstar. His former partner, Jason Jordan, could very well show up to shake things up for good. Could he take out his ire on having to miss WrestleMania on Rollins? If so, the world would be very shocked indeed.

It makes sense for Jordan to show up on RAW and not SmackDown Live, to continue his storyline with Kurt Angle. But first, he could interfere in the match between Seth Rollins and The Miz, taking out the champion. Rollins would retain the championship without having to make The Miz seem weak.

Jordan and Rollins could then embark on a program that lasts the entirety of the summer. The two men are gifted athletes and could certainly put on some really great matches over the following months.

#3 The Miz carries the Intercontinental Championship to SmackDown

Could Rollins lose this big match?
Could Rollins lose this big match?

The Miz takes on Seth Rollins in an inter-brand match for the Intercontinental Championship. Doesn't that have a great ring to it? Could we possibly see The Miz win the Championship either owing to a distraction or even a clean victory, and take the title to SmackDown Live? Could RAW be left without any mid-card championships?

Because every pay-per-view will be dual-branded going forward, RAW can always get the Championship back subsequently. This would certainly put an interesting spin on things.

#2 Andrade 'Cien' Almas attacks Jeff Hardy

What better stage to make a debut?
What better stage to make a debut?

Andrade 'Cien' Almas and Zelina Vega were once the hottest act in WWE's developmental brand - NXT. They were drafted to SmackDown Live following the Superstar Shake-Up. Could Almas make a huge impact by going after Jeff Hardy, right off the bat? This would elevate him straight to the upper mid card.

Almas has the look, the in-ring chops and a really feisty manager as well. He is main-roster ready and who wouldn't want to see him lock horns with Jeff Hardy for the second most important championship on the blue brand? Maybe Randy Orton can get in on the action too.

Almas could obviously also interfere in the AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura match for the WWE Championship. However, it may be far too soon for that!

#1 Balor turns heel

This may be the shift in character that Finn Balor needed!
This may be just the shift in character that Finn Balor needed!

Finn Balor was once the first ever Universal Champion. It seemed as if the sky was the limit for the talented young man. And then, he got injured. Since he's come back, he's never seemed the same, really.

Balor may fare far better as a heel, we think. He could attack Seth Rollins during his Intercontinental Championship match and cost him his prized title. And this could very well tie in with point number 3.

How many of these will take place at Backlash? Looks like we'll have to wait and watch, folks!
