5 things WWE told us indirectly on SmackDown Live (April 16, 2019)

Reigns on SmackDown Live

The Superstar Shake-up continued on WWE SmackDown Live as the blue brand acquired some good names. At first, it was the ultra-talented Finn Balor that was introduced as the new member of the blue brand.

Then, it was two talented stars in Ember Moon and Bayley who became the new members of SmackDown Live. But the biggest acquisition for SmackDown was the arrival of the Big Dog Roman Reigns.

It was an episode with a lot of fun moments as Kevin Owens became an honorary member of the New Day and ate all the pancakes that he could, wore the ridiculous unicorn strap on his head and danced and twerked and moved his hips like New Day members normally do.

There was certainly a lot to be interpreted from this and one of them is…

#5 Kevin Owens building cracks in New Day

Kevin Owens opened the show at Montreal by hosting his show. He called out New Day members as his guests but they were without Big E, who is recovering from an injury.

As a result, Owens suggested the New Day to make him their honorary member for the day so that the trio could fight against the team of Rusev, Nakamura and Cesaro.

Kingston and Woods eventually agreed but Big E might not have been pleased as he took to Twitter to post a picture of himself with a disgusted look on his face.

Could this be the beginning of a feud between Big E and his New Day brothers for allowing Owens to take his place – even if it was for one night? Or is this going to be a long-term thing – at least until Big E comes back from his injury – causing Big E to be more frustrated and eventually turning on his brothers?

#4 The SmackDown Women's title is going to be with Becky for a while

The SmackDown Title might stay on her for a while

Being a double champ, Becky Lynch is having to pull double duty for WWE. She is appearing both of RAW and SmackDown but it is unlikely that she would continue like this.

Indeed, she already has a challenger for her RAW Women’s Title in Lacey Evans, who beat Natalya to earn the number one contender spot. However, on SmackDown, nothing like that happened as Lynch doesn’t yet have a challenger to face her for the SmackDown Women’s Title.

What does this mean? While Becky might lose her RAW Title eventually as she is still a SmackDown Superstar, it could be a while before someone takes the blue belt off her shoulders.

For now, they don’t even have a contender for the SmackDown Title, which is a testament to the claim made above.

#3 Asuka in the tag division

New Tag Team in the house?

The Empress of Tomorrow was one of the hottest aspects of the SmackDown Women’s division not so long ago. She won the SmackDown Women’s Title at TLC last year but after that, some bad booking decisions meant that her reign was a forgettable one.

She then lost the title two weeks before WrestleMania on SmackDown, which ended her reign at 100 days. Usually, being the champion means the limelight is almost always on you.

But in the case of Asuka, it was the opposite that happened as she didn’t even make a significant appearance at WrestleMania.

However, WWE may have found a new role for her as she came out with Kairi Sane on SmackDown. With the Sasha Banks situation weakening the Women’s Tag division, WWE may use this pair to fill up the void left by the breakup of the Boss ‘n’ Hug Connection.

#2 Elias set for a push

A long overdue push to be finally given?
A long overdue push to be finally given?

When Vince MacMahon came to the ring to announce the big Superstar arrival for SmackDown Live, everyone expected it to be either Drew McIntyre or Roman Reigns.

However, the Chairman then called Elias out after touting him to be the future of SmackDown and WWE, much to the dismay of the fans. When the Chairman of the company hypes someone up like this, it could mean that a push is on the way for the Superstar.

Elias is one of those superstars who went over with the fans – even with a heel gimmick – but never really got pushed for anything. He simply remained a musical act and most of the time gets interrupted.

Maybe, just maybe, WWE might push the Drifter now and one of the ways that the company might do this is by making…

#1 Reigns feud with Elias?

Reigns could have a feud with him
Reigns could have a feud with him

When AJ Styles was announced as the newest addition of the WWE RAW brand, many began expecting that Roman Reigns might just shift to SmackDown. After all, a void as huge as AJ Styles could only be filled with a Superstar of similar stature in terms of reputation.

So when Vince McMahon called out Elias and he started insulting the Montreal crowd, Roman Reigns’ music hit and a huge pop reverberated the arena.

Ever since returning after putting his leukemia back in remission, Reigns has been receiving huge cheers whenever he arrives. It was no different on SmackDown tonight as he not only punched Vince McMahon but also speared Elias.

Does this mean that there is going to be a feud between the two? It would certainly be a huge boost for Elias as he would finally be pitted against a Superstar with such a huge reputation, giving him the necessary push.
