With WWE WrestleMania 34 almost upon us, we are taking a look at five things you might not know about recent ‘Mania events.

In this article, we focus on WrestleMania XXX – a show best-remembered for Brock Lesnar ending The Undertaker’s undefeated streak and Daniel Bryan finally overcoming The Authority to win the WWE Championship.

The event also saw Cesaro win the first Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal, while John Cena cemented his 'Mania legacy with a victory over relative newcomer Bray Wyatt.

#5 The Undertaker doesn’t remember his match against Brock Lesnar

'The Streak' ended at WrestleMania XXX

If you were watching WrestleMania XXX live when The Undertaker’s undefeated streak was broken by Brock Lesnar, there’s a good chance you remember exactly how you felt when it happened.

However, the same cannot be said for ‘Taker, who was knocked out early on in the match and, according to John Bradshaw Layfield, doesn’t remember anything from 3:30 pm on the day of ‘Mania until 4:30 am the next morning.

Steve Austin revealed on an episode of WWE Network show Legends With JBL that he asked just before the match if the man behind the ‘Taker character, Mark Calaway, would appear on his podcast.

Calaway agreed but, as Austin tells it, he probably doesn’t even remember the interaction, so the podcast appearance never happened!

#4 Daniel Bryan’s gear was originally meant for his run with the Wyatt Family

Daniel Bryan wore new boots at WrestleMania XXX

Every WWE Superstar likes to make an effort at WrestleMania by wearing special attire for the event, and Daniel Bryan was no different at WrestleMania XXX.

“The Leader of the Yes Movement” paid homage to Bruiser Brody by wearing furry, grey boots for his two matches on the show – first against Triple H, then against Batista and Randy Orton – but they were actually intended to be used during his time as a member of the Wyatt Family.

Bryan was brainwashed into aligning with Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper and Erick Rowan three months earlier. However, he was only with the villainous trio for two weeks, so he held off debuting the boots until 'Mania.

#3 Why the Triple Threat between The Shield was scrapped

There was dissension in The Shield before WrestleMania XXX

WrestleMania XXX ended up being one of the best ‘Mania events in recent memory, with Brock Lesnar’s shocking victory over The Undertaker and Daniel Bryan’s long-awaited WWE Championship win being the major highlights.

However, the final card changed significantly from what WWE had originally planned, with rumours at the time suggesting that Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose were going to face each other in a Triple Threat match.

That plan reportedly changed due to CM Punk’s exit and the negative reaction towards Batista, which meant the hugely popular Bryan – originally due to face Sheamus – took on Triple H and then joined Randy Orton and Batista in the main event.

It was reported before ‘Mania that a Triple Threat between the three Shield members was scrapped because WWE didn’t want two high-profile Triple Threat matches on the card. Instead, they defeated Kane & The New Age Outlaws in the shortest match of the show.

#2 Cameron suffered a wardrobe malfunction

C
AJ Lee successfully defended the Divas title in the match

Remember the Vickie Guerrero Invitational match for the Divas Championship? None of the 14 women received entrances and the match occurred just minutes after a stunned New Orleans crowd witnessed The Undertaker lose to Brock Lesnar.

The odds were well and truly stacked against the women, but especially Cameron, whose top tore apart at the back after she delivered a suplex to Divas champion AJ Lee, the eventual winner of the match.

Fortunately for the former Funkadactyl, she was able to continue the match, even performing several moves while holding the rest of her top close to her chest.

#1 Batista was originally supposed to win the WWE title

B
Batista booked his ticket to WrestleMania at the Royal Rumble

Batista’s five-month run with WWE in 2014 was widely viewed as an absolute disaster, with the man himself even saying in various interviews that he was “screwed over” by poor booking.

“The Animal” was brought back after a four-year absence to win the 2014 Royal Rumble, which was supposed to set up a WWE Championship victory against fellow Evolution faction member Randy Orton in the main event of WrestleMania XXX.

However, the fan reaction to him as a babyface was less than favourable and WWE decided to add Daniel Bryan to the match to make it a Triple Threat. Of course, Bryan would emerge with the title, meaning Batista missed out on a seventh WWE world title reign.
