By 1999, both The Rock and Mick Foley had become top WWE Superstars, with major fan following. On the January 30, 1999 edition of RAW, The Rock 'n' Sock Connection was formed. Mankind offered to become The Rock's tag team partner against The Undertaker and Big Show, with the Tag Team titles on the line. Surprisingly, the makeshift team ended up defeating the giants to win the belts. They lost the belts to The Undertaker and Big Show in a Buried Alive match soon after. The duo became incredibly popular and went on to win the Tag Team titles on three occasions.
On the road to WrestleMania 20, Foley brought back The Rock to even the odds against Evolution, consisting of Ric Flair, Batista, and Randy Orton. The Rock 'n' Sock Connection faced Evolution in a Handicap match at The Show of Shows. The match ended with the villains standing tall after Orton successfully connected an RKO on Foley. The Rock soon left WWE and it would be eight long years before his huge return to the promotion.

Given the opportunity to script WWE’s next big storyline, Abhilash would treat fans to the second installment of The Bloodline Civil War. He would book Roman Reigns to re-form The Bloodline with The Usos and Sami Zayn upon his comeback. The angle would see The Tribal Chief-led group go head-to-head with The Rock, Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, and Jacob Fatu in a blockbuster family feud.
