The Miz had a great year in 2016. It was a breakout year for him after having a number of less-than-stellar years prior. He was a major part of making Smackdown Live successful and in his time as Intercontinental Champion made the belt relevant again, just like he claims.
With that being the case, and him no longer being the champion, he is free to move up higher on the card. He already called out and wrestled the WWE Champion AJ Styles in a competitive match, so clearly, WWE sees him as close to being on that level.

Could that mean that there is a chance that he will be the last man standing when the dust settles in the Royal Rumble match?
Guys like Goldberg and The Undertaker are in there and are major favourites to win, but the field is up in the air and there are a lot of men who could potentially win the match and go on to headline WrestleMania.
The Miz should not be counted out and could be on the shortlist of possible victors.
I got my first big break writing for 411Mania back in 2004. I did a small spot in a big weekly piece that was written by one of the site's top writers. I quickly added the duty of being the live recapper for episodes of SmackDown, and in 2005 was given my own weekly column, which I did for a few years. I gave up writing (mostly) to start a family but got back into it, still at 411, a little over 3 years later. For another couple of years, I wrote 2-3 columns per week for the website before finding paid work elsewhere, and eventually wound up at SportsKeeda.
I am also the co-founder of the RBR: Weekly Wrestling Talk podcast, which started in the summer of 2005 and is still going strong today, almost 15 years later. Due to school, work, and family commitments, I left the team in 2011 but still remain a part of the family.
