5 Ugliest backstage catfights in WWE history

catfight
Jerry Lawler is a happy man

The term "catfight" within the world of WWE tends to refer back to an era in which women's wrestling wasn't all too prominent. Instead, the women on screen engaged in brawls both in the ring and backstage that only really existed to appease the masses of male fans who wanted to see some puppies. Thanks a lot for that by the way, Mr Lawler. Not.

Despite all this, though, there have been some enjoyable catfights over the years that have taken place during backstage segments. Obviously, that may not be what a lot of you were expecting us to talk about when you saw the title, but when we bring up the term "ugliest" it can tie into the idea that some of these brawls were quite brutal in an enjoyable kind of way.

After all, titles like the Hardcore Championship used to thrive on these kinds of incidents so why can't we pick out a few of our favourite scraps between the women of yesteryear? They're fun, they're entertaining, and they remind some fans of a time when professional wrestling was at an all-time high. Well, from a rating’s standpoint that is.

With that being said, here are the five ugliest backstage catfights in WWE history.

#1 Torrie Wilson vs. Stacy Keibler

torrie
Torrie and Stacy together was money

Torrie Wilson and Stacy Keibler are two of the most beautiful women to ever walk through the doors of WWE - that much is obvious. Because of this, whenever the two women were in the same room together it would almost always equal ratings as fans from around the world wanted to see what these two divas would be doing on the show.

At Backlash 2003, however, they were treated to something a little different as Wilson and Keibler engaged in a backstage brawl that was actually quite impressive. After briefly grappling, the bout escalated to the point where Wilson threw Keibler into a selection of drawers, causing a heavy box to fall onto her head from above. Ouch.

We fast forward five years for our next entry.

Melina vs. Beth Phoenix

melina
Poor old Melina

Beth Phoenix is one of the most intimidating women in the history of WWE. Fact. As such, you'd think that Melina would be smart enough not to mess with her both in and outside of the ring - but unfortunately, you'd be wrong. During a backstage altercation on a 2008 episode of Raw, Phoenix ragdolled Melina to the point where she even threw her up against a locker.

It was a pleasing sight for fans who weren't so keen on Melina as either a character or a wrestler, with Phoenix continuing to look like the dominating Glamazon that she was. Since then Phoenix has entered the WWE Hall of Fame but considering Melina's rocky past with the company we can't imagine that she'll be following Beth's lead anytime soon.

Onto two of the greatest female Superstars of all time.

#3 Trish Stratus vs. Lita

trish
Trish and Lita created pure art together

Yup, they were fantastic outside of the ring too. Trish and Lita had many great battles inside of the squared circle, but they also took their warfare backstage on one or two occasions. One of the more notable incidents took place back on a 2002 episode of SmackDown when they quite literally beat the hell out of each other around WrestleMania season.

Looking back it's a shame that we never got to see these two face off one-on-one at the showcase of the immortals, but at least we have many fond memories to take away from their legendary rivalry. After all, they were the first women to main event Monday Night Raw more than a decade ago - paving the way for the likes of Sasha Banks and Charlotte in the new era.

It's time to get funky.

#4 The Bella Twins vs. The Funkadactyls

Look at where they are now..

The less said about this one the better, because all of the women involved are in a much better place four years on. Brie is happily retired with a baby on the way, Nikki was in a featured match at ‘Mania and is the longest reigning Divas Champion in history, meanwhile, Naomi won back the SmackDown Women's Championship at the Citrus Bowl.

Oh, yeah, and there's Cameron - sorry, we forgot about her. Anyway, the brawl in question was certainly a feisty one as the Bellas threw the Funkadactyls all over the backstage area during a 2013 episode of SmackDown. It's odd to see how far they've come from this point, especially considering that it was around this time they had their WrestleMania 29 match cancelled.

We conclude with the maddest of them all.

#5 Dawn Marie vs. Torrie Wilson

marie
An interesting feud to say the least

Before we get started, please get the image of Dawn Marie seducing Torrie Wilson out of your head - and do it now. That's not what we're here for and we're all better than that, right? Right? Anyway, the brawl in question took place on a 2003 episode of SmackDown.

We wish that was all there was to it, but unfortunately, that isn't the case. The setting was the supposed funeral of Torrie Wilson's father, despite the fact he hadn't actually died, and in response to being slapped, Dawn Marie smashed a lamp over the head of Wilson. Because you know, we can't let the babyface get one over on the heel at a funeral. Wrestling.
