5 unanswered questions ahead of WrestleMania 34

<p>
Daniel Bryan's partner Shane McMahon may not be able to compete due to his bout with diverticulitis

With the biggest show on the wrestling calendar, WrestleMania 34, just a few days away, There are many unanswered questions. In wrestling, it is sometimes good for things to be kept a secret, and especially for WrestleMania, which lately has always been full of shocks and surprises.

The Hardy Boyz comeback last year, the NWO and DX fighting it out during Triple H vs Sting a few years back, and Seth Rollins cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase were all iconic moments that the audience was not expecting.

WrestleMania this year has certainly left a lot of unanswered questions, some deliberately and some through incidents that are out of their control. However, the build-up to WrestleMania is supposed to get wrestling fans excited about their 'show of shows' and to encourage casual or lapsed fans to buy their pay-per-view or subscribe to the WWE network. This year's build-up has been seriously lacking, there is a lot of uncertainty in terms of storylines and many matches have question marks against them.

These days WrestleMania sells itself, but if the unanswered questions are not dealt with it could alienate fans from the product and the show could be a disappointment. This time of year WWE usually knocks it out of the park and with so many unanswered questions lingering we will find out on Sunday if they can answer them in an appropriate manner.

#5 Will Shane McMahon compete?

Sha
Shane McMahon was set to team up with Daniel Bryan to take on Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn

WWE fans were ecstatic when Daniel Bryan was cleared by doctors to compete a couple of weeks ago, but the match that he has been slated to compete in against Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens took a hit recently after his partner Shane McMahon was hospitalized after suffering from diverticulitis.

It appears that Shane O'Mac will be appearing on SmackDown this week to address his health issues and update everyone on his status ahead of the scheduled tag team match at WrestleMania. Should he not compete this Sunday, the major question mark will be if Daniel Bryan competes on his own or with another partner.

Whether Shane McMahon will compete at 'Mania will most likely be revealed tonight on SmackDown, should he need surgery then it is likely he will have to sit this one out, but Shane being the crazy risk taker that he is, he may well compete anyway, even if it is in a limited capacity.

#4 Who will be Braun Strowman's partner?

M
Braun Strowman and a mystery partner will take on the Bar at WrestleMania

Another unanswered question leading into this WrestleMania is who will be Braun Strowman's partner to take on Cesaro and Sheamus.

Strowman won a battle royal on his own in a match to determine the number 1 contenders for the Bar's Raw tag team titles, Kurt Angle subsequently ordered Strowman to find a tag team partner or he would forfeit the opportunity. With WrestleMania just a few days away it is not clear who Strowman will pick to team up with but there are a couple of contenders for this role.

One WWE superstar that has been rumored to partner Strowman is the Big Show. The 7ft 2', 500 pounder has just signed a new contract with the WWE and it would seem fitting for the two giants to do battle against the brawlers Cesaro and Sheamus.

Another possibility is for Strowman to reunite up with his former leader Bray Wyatt. Wyatt is yet to be lined up for a match at 'Mania and with his feud against Broken Matt Hardy seemingly come to an end, it would make sense for him to reunite with his former leader on Sunday. Should the former Wyatt family members team up it would strengthen Raw's tag team division, which at the moment is not nearly as strong as SmackDown's.

#3 Where is the Undertaker?

John C
John Cena has called out Undertaker the last few weeks on Raw

For the past few weeks on Raw John Cena has challenged The Undertaker to a match at WrestleMania, however, the Deadman is yet to respond to the 16 time WWE champion's challenge.

This challenge all started on the Raw after Fastlane, with Cena unable to capture the WWE championship and not wanting to take a spot in the Andre the Giant battle royal from a young superstar, he challenged the Undertaker to face him on the WWE's 'show of shows'.

It is one of the strangest builds to a potential match ever, in some of his previous 'Mania matches Taker has made limited appearances, but ahead of this one, he has made zero. It seems unthinkable that this match won't happen given the weeks that have been put into Cena standing in the ring calling Taker out, however, it seems odd that there hasn't been as little as a gong followed by the lights turning out in the arena.

With WrestleMania just a few days away, John Cena vs Undertaker is an unannounced match, although 'Mania more or less sells itself these days, it is unlike the WWE not to confirm this match in order to get fans to watch their biggest PPV of the year. This match could well headline the show, two of the biggest names in the company's history and a much-anticipated encounter, not confirming this match and promoting it feels odd, but most still expect it to happen.

#2 Brock Lesnar's last match?

B
Brock Lesnar has been rumored to return to the UFC

As has been strongly speculated, it appears that Brock Lesnar's match against Roman Reigns this Sunday at WrestleMania will be his last.

Lesnar's contract with the WWE is set to expire after WrestleMania 34 and a return to UFC has been teased. It has been reported that WWE won't permit Lesnar to fight with the UFC whilst under contract, however, Lesnar did compete at UFC 200 whilst on the WWE's payroll.

It is still uncertain whether or not Lesnar will return to the UFC given his previous problems there, first being his failed drugs test which led to his victory at UFC 200 being overturned, and second, his bout with diverticulitis in 2011 which affected his ability to perform.

It could be said that WWE has deliberately misled their audience into believing that Lesnar is leaving, an example of this being Roman Reigns' promo a few weeks ago on Raw which fuelled the speculation about him leaving. This could be the WWE's way of getting the fans behind Reigns' who otherwise might have been very pro-Brock or just hyping the match in general.

Whether Lesnar will leave the WWE or if they are working the crowd in order to add fuel to their match is unclear at this stage, but there is no reason why Lesnar cannot continue to work his part-time schedule with WWE and fight another match with the UFC if he wanted. Lesnar is clearly a prized asset for WWE and one they have invested a lot of time into, so to let him go so easily would seem silly.

#1 Will Undertaker return as the American Bad Ass?

Un
Undertaker debuted as the American Bad Ass at Judgement Day in May 2000

It has been speculated that Undertaker could return with the American bad ass gimmick that he used during the Attitude Era from 2000 until 2003.

With Kid Rock entering the Hall of Fame this year it has been speculated he could perform 'American bad ass' live at WrestleMania, the song that Undertaker had used in 2000, as he makes his way to the ring. It may seem slightly odd seeing a 53-year-old man riding a bike to the ring, played out by a much-maligned artist, but it is entirely possible this could happen.

It makes sense given that at last years 'Mania Taker left his hat and coat in the ring after his defeat to Roman Reigns in the main event. Many had assumed that this had meant the deadman had retired, this now looks unlikely but what could be inferred is that it was an end to the Undertaker's deadman character and not his career. If Taker were to go back to his American bad ass days, it would humanize him and allow a better send off for him when he does eventually retire.

Whilst many prefer Undertaker in his iconic deadman character, it is entirely logical that the WWE could bring him back as the American Bad Ass, considering everything that has happened recently and the timing. With Taker's career coming to an end, he could bow out with a character that is much more like him in real life and to give him a proper send-off with him on a motorcycle riding off into the sunset.
