Since the 1998 Survivor Series pay-per-view, both Rock and Mankind had been bitter rivals, however, the following year, the two men formed a very unlikely alliance when The Rock had challenged both The Undertaker and Big Show after the two men attacked The Great One in the first place.

With The Rock scheduled to face both Undertaker and Show, Mankind offered a helping hand to his former foe and his offer was eventually accepted by The Rock as well. Later in the same night, both Rock and Mankind won the WWF Tag Team Championships and stunned the WWE Universe after they had pinned The Big Show for a historic win following a double People's Elbow.

Following their initial run, The Rock 'n' Sock Connection would go on to reunite on several notable occasions and eventually cemented their place as one of the most loveable and popular tag teams in WWE history.
