5 WrestleMania storylines for Dean Ambrose before he leaves WWE

What will WWE do with Dean Ambrose before he leaves after WrestleMania?
What will WWE do with Dean Ambrose before he leaves after WrestleMania?

'The Lunatic Fringe' Dean Ambrose has allegedly informed WWE that he will not be renewing his contract when it expires in April this year, shortly after WrestleMania. This was corroborated by WWE themselves, who sent out a statement to several media publications and posted it on their own website.

The wrestling community seems to be up in arms about whether or not Dean Ambrose is actually going to leave the company or not, and remain undecided about whether or not the announcement from the WWE is an attempt to 'work' everyone with a new storyline for Ambrose.

My personal opinion is that the announcement is a work, but that doesn't mean that Ambrose is staying with the company come April. By that, I mean that I think the fact they announced Ambrose's departure now, rather than when he actually leaves, is storyline driven and will lead to an exit storyline for the WWE Superstar.

But what storylines could the WWE do with someone they know is leaving? Ambrose's impending departure provides an excellent opportunity for WWE to do something new and exciting before he leaves. Here are some suggestions

#5 Intergender match

Will Dean Ambrose and Nia Jax fully bring back Intergender Wrestling at WrestleMania?
Will Dean Ambrose and Nia Jax fully bring back Intergender Wrestling at WrestleMania?

Intergender wrestling in the WWE has been a hot topic recently with many amazing matches between female and male wrestlers taking place on the independent circuit, but WWE staying well clear of them except for select circumstances (ie. James Ellsworth)

But one of the big takeaways from this year's Royal Rumble was that intergender wrestling seems to be back to some extent, especially after Nia Jax entered the Men's Royal Rumble Match and ate everyone's finishers.

WWE then doubled-down on this by having Nia Jax attack Dean Ambrose as he was exiting the ring on Monday Night Raw

During a backstage segment, Ambrose indicated that he was going to chalk it up as Jax slipping in the ring and accidentally hitting him. But what if it happens again? What if Jax forces Ambrose to snap?

It's early days but we could've seen the start of a build towards an intergender match between Nia Jax and Dean Ambrose at WrestleMania, which would be a truly interesting addition to WWE's biggest show and a potentially befitting and truly random exit for 'The Lunatic Fringe'

#4 Battle with the boss

Could 'The Lunatic Fringe' push his luck with Triple H?
Could 'The Lunatic Fringe' push his luck with Triple H?

All three of the Shield Superstars have had confrontations with Triple H but it seems that Ambrose might be up for round two. That's because on the same Monday Night Raw he got on the wrong side of Nia Jax he also had a face-to-face confrontation with the boss where Ambrose was less than polite!

Now, Triple H was rumoured to be wrestling Batista at WrestleMania, something that was sort of set up during the SmackDown 1,000th episode special. However, Triple H got injured at Crown Jewel and Batista is now off making movies again so that match seems unlikely.

So, could this moment on Raw be setting up a potential match between Ambrose and Triple H? After he lost to Seth Rollins, Ambrose sat in a chair and the ring and attempted to say something before he was interrupted.

What if Ambrose was going to say something bad about Triple H, or the company, and tries to do so every week with Triple H sending someone out to interrupt him every week?

This potentially works. WWE announces that Ambrose isn't renewing his contract, Ambrose tries to tell people why and Triple H acts to protect the company. This could eventually lead to Ambrose's revelation finally being revealed and a match between the two at WrestleMania.

#3 Lunatic unleashed

Ambrose is at his best when he's violent, deranged and unpredictable
Ambrose is at his best when he's violent, deranged and unpredictable

Dean Ambrose is in the unique position of being a competing WWE Superstar for three more months, but someone who isn't really bound by the consequences of being an employee because he's leaving anyway. He's also someone who has pretty much failed to leave up to the 'Lunatic Fringe' moniker since he's been in the WWE.

His heel turn, when he turned on Seth Rollins on the same night Roman Reigns announced his cancer had returned, was one of the best heel turns ever and had shades of the 'Lunatic' we should be seeing in Dean Ambrose but it fizzled out.

This is the opportune moment for WWE and Ambrose to truly do something special with his character and truly live up to 'The Lunatic Fringe'. Basically, I'm saying WWE should let him off the leash, let him cause chaos for the next three months with everyone helpless to stop him because he simply doesn't care if he gets fined or suspended or fired.

There doesn't have to be a specific direction, but the things he could do are endless. He could try to injure Rollins before Mania, he could destroy the ring, he could attack anyone and everyone he comes across, he could hold WWE hostage until he gets an Intercontinental Title shot. He can be the 'Lunatic' that WWE calls him, but he previously hasn't physically been.

It can culminate in a psychotic Ambrose trying to cost Rollins the match against Lesnar and Reigns preventing him from doing so and restoring his mental stability. The three Shield guys celebrate and then Ambrose leaves, ashamed of what he's done.

#2 Loser stays in town match

Dean Ambrose might have to win a match to leave the company
Dean Ambrose might have to win a match to leave the company

The details of Dean Ambrose's departure from the WWE are fairly unique with only a handful of similar examples and even then this is still fairly different to those. WWE has announced that Ambrose is quitting WWE three months in advance of when he will actually leave.

This means that they can technically still negotiate with Ambrose and change his mind behind the scenes. But, what if they did that on-screen. What if they made a storyline of WWE trying to get Dean Ambrose to stay?

You could have Dean Ambrose finally get to say what he was going to say on Raw, that he's leaving WWE and he isn't going to change his mind. You can then have Triple H try and get him to stay leading to more and more confrontations between the two.

Ambrose demands a match with Triple H at WrestleMania and 'The Game' agrees but on one condition - if Ambrose loses he has to re-sign with WWE.

This storyline works because you can adapt the result of the match depending on the real-life contract situation of Dean Ambrose, I also really like the fun reversal of a 'Loser Leaves Town' stipulation leading to Ambrose trying his hardest to win the match so that he does lose his job.

#1 Leader of the revolt

faction of 'unhappy' WWE stars

I've saved the most ludicrous and outrageous potential storyline until last. What if Dean Ambrose becomes the leader and the face of a movement of WWE Superstars who want to leave WWE because they're unhappy?

Obviously, with AEW on the horizon of starting, we are getting what seems like a new rumour a week suggesting that a current WWE Superstar is unhappy and wants to leave or has already asked to leave.

We've seen The Revival, Hideo Itami, Mike and Maria Kanellis and Dolph Ziggler to name a few that have all been announced as handing in release requests or announced as actually leaving WWE.

I'm not saying this is the case for a second, but what if this was all an elaborate storyline from the WWE to push underused stars and create a new mega-faction led by 'The Lunatic Fringe' himself in a revolt against the company? It would be awesome! Just imagine Ambrose trying to get other Superstars to join him in a mass exodus from the company.
