5 Wrestling couples with huge age differences

Age differences don’t really matter all that much when you’re with someone who understands you

The life of a professional wrestler is a difficult one and be extremely taxing on one’s physical health and mental health, as well as personal life. It becomes almost challenging to maintain relationships when you’re on the road for 300 days a year which is why a lot of wrestlers end up dating their colleagues.

The advantage with this is that you’re in a relationship with somebody who understands the business and goes through the same rigours you do, day in and day out. It helps eliminate the loneliness involved in the world of pro-wrestling.

Another funny thing about wrestling relationships is that age differences don’t really matter all that much when you’re with someone who understands you and your life so well. Age does indeed become just a number and this lack of care about age differences is what this list is all about.

So, without any further ado, here are 5 wrestling couples with big differences:

#5 Edge and Beth Phoenix – 7 years

Edge and Beth Phoenix will become the first real-life couple to be in the WWE Hall of Fame this year

Edge is a retired Hall of Fame wrestler, who had an incredible amount of success over the course of his WWE career. Starting as a tag-team expert with best friend, Christian, Edge made a name for himself as one of the top upcoming talents through which he transitioned into a bonafide megastar.

Beth Phoenix is also a retired WWE wrestler in the company’s women’s division and had a relatively shorter but still impactful career as she picked up the WWE Women’s Championship on multiple occasions and is going to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame this year.

The couple started dating in 2013 and have had two children – both daughters – before finally tying the knot in October of last year, Edge’s 43rd birthday. Their age difference of 7 years hardly gave the couple any doubts and 36-year-old Beth Phoenix will become the youngest inductee into the Hall of Fame.

This induction will also make Edge and Beth the only real-life couple to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. A legendary marriage, indeed.

#4 CM Punk and AJ Lee – 8 years

AJ Lee left the company shortly after Punk did to embark on his UFC career

CM Punk became one of the hottest pro-wrestlers on the planet following his infamous Pipebomb Promo and he looked all set to become an all-time great until his working relationship with the WWE fell apart and he left for the world of MMA.

AJ Lee had a moderately successful run with the company herself in a variety of roles but it was her relationship with Punk which caused her to leave the company as well. The story goes that Vince McMahon sent Punk his termination papers on the day of his wedding to Lee.

Despite continuing to be part of the WWE for a short while after the wedding incident, AJ Lee inevitably left the company herself.

The two have always enjoyed a good working relationship during their time with the company and the eight year age gap mattered little when the two decided to take a step forward in their personal relationship as well.

#3 Brock Lesnar and Sable – 10 years

Sable is 10-years Brock’s senior

Brock Lesnar is one of the most recognisable names on the planet. Not just in pro-wrestling but also in mainstream media due to his exploits as an MMA athlete. The Beast Incarnate will forever go down as one of the most fearsome men to ever step foot into the squared circle.

Sable, on the other hand, will always be remembered for her run with the WWE, where she was amongst the sexiest women to ever step foot into Vince McMahon’s company.

Despite Sable being ten years Lesnar’s senior, the two have been married since 2006 and even have two daughters. The couple is fond of their private lives and ensure that they are rarely in the spotlight together outside of Lesnar’s exploits with the WWE and the UFC.

#2 Matt Hardy and Reby Sky – 12 years

Reby has become a part of the Broken Matt Hardy gimmick

No one would have faulted Matt Hardy if he swore off workplace relationships after the heartbreaking debacle involving ex-girlfriend, Lita, and good friend, Edge. But, that was back during his days with the WWE and Hardy had no such qualms when he met Reby Sky on the indie scene, who if you didn’t was in a storyline relationship with Dean Ambrose in the indy circuit.

Romance blossomed between the two during their run on the indies and they were more than happy to sign TNA contracts together. This eventually led to the birth of one of the most popular gimmicks of 2016 – Broken Matt Hardy.

With Reby, as well as their son, making appearances as part of the most innovative gimmick the wrestling world has seen in years, there is absolutely no doubt that the couple made the right decision in getting together despite their twelve year age gap.

#1 The Undertaker and Michelle McCool – 15 years

Even The Undertaker found love with Michelle McCool

We are closing this list off with the wrestler who has made kayfabe a part of his life, The Undertaker. Taker is one most the most iconic figures to step into the squared circle but he showed that even someone as legendary as The Deadman has a heart, with his relationship and eventual marriage to Michelle McCool.

The two met during their run together in the WWE where McCool had some amount of success. This didn’t deter The Phenom, though, as he got together with the former school teacher following his second divorce.

There is a staggering fifteen-year gap between the two but that has hardly seemed to matter as they have been together for a long time now and even have a daughter to celebrate a relationship that has seen a softer side of The Undertaker we rarely if ever, get to see.
