The winner of the 2005 Diva Search, Ashley Massaro debuted on WWE RAW with big expectations. She was promptly endorsed on-screen by Trish Stratus and had a tag team match alongside Trish against Victoria and Torrie Wilson at that year's Unforgiven.

She seemed to be heading to WrestleMania 22 as part of a feud with fellow newcomer Mickie James and Trish Stratus, but an in-ring injury put an end to that plan. In her absence, Mickie beat Trish for the Women's title, and with her considerable wrestling experience, convinced the WWE Creative and fans that she could carry on the mantle as the top performer on the women's division after Trish and Lita.

Ashley would still be pushed after her return and challenged for Melina's Women's title at Wrestlemania 23. But her in-ring skills had not developed up to the mark and the match was considered as a dud. With Trish and Lita now retired, WWE turned to the likes of James, Melina, Beth Phoenix, and Michelle McCool to be the figureheads of the women's division, leaving Ashley in the cold.

She would still be featured on TV and PPVs and even had a segment at the next WrestleMania, but would soon ask for her release from the company, having not lived up to her potential as the expected popular baby face.
