5 WWE Superstars that could potentially dethrone Brock Lesnar as Universal Champion

Much to the dismay of the entire WWE Universe, Brock Lesnar is again the WWE Universal Champion, and we're already looking forward to the day he is dethroned. Ever since the day he walked into Money in the Bank and claimed the briefcase, fans were worried he'd be on top in no time, and unfortunately, it looks like there's no one around to stop Brock.

The company has tried to give Roman Reigns the top push to take over, but that's failed, and it's highly unlikely that Seth Rollins will beat him again for the Championship, so where does that leave us? So without further ado, sit back and read along as we look to the future and 5 possible wrestlers that could dethrone Brock Lesnar (while many of these are fantasies, they're all possible sometime in the future).

#5 Aleister Black

On the surface, Aleister Black may not seem like someone worthy of Brock Lesnar, but if WWE continue to build the aura around the Dutch Destroyer, he might be a great option down the line. Inside the ring, there are few in WWE that can compete with the former NXT Champion, and if WWE are serious about him being a main event babyface for the company, this is certainly something they should explore.

He just had his first singles PPV victory over Cesaro at Extreme Rules, and if that quality can continue, there's no doubt that SmackDown Live may have found its next big star. While Black is considered small in comparison to Lesnar, the way he carries himself indicates he can fight way above his weight limit, and he's not someone that Brock could just overlook.

Unfortunately, this may be the least likely one on our entire list here, but if WWE continue to build Aleister as the brooding destroyer that he is, then he could be a dark horse for this role.

#4 Matt Riddle

There are few in WWE who can boast the legit MMA background of Brock Lesnar, but one that most certainly can is the Original Bro, current NXT superstar, Matt Riddle. This has been a goal for Riddle since coming into the wrestling business, and given how well he's transitioning to WWE, he'll be on the main roster very soon.

He hasn't stopped vocalising it since joining WWE either, and he's put it out there that much at this point, that it almost has to happen. Given that Brock just won the title, it's unlikely that he'll drop it in the next few months, and if NXT can continue building Riddle the way they have, this is a very real possibility.

Riddle isn't known by the whole world yet, but if WWE bring him up and push him straight away, he'll be a megastar, as he has everything that the company wants in a top star.

#3 Ali

While the underdog vs. monster story is a great one, it's one that WWE doesn't use too often, and given what happened between Brock Lesnar and Ali at Money in the Bank, this is one that they need to go too at some point. Ali is an incredible storyteller, and with his bumping ability, he'd be great alongside The Beast, and while it's very unlikely to happen, this would be a fun story for WWE to tell.

Ali hasn't received too much time on TV since the latest draft, but his social media promos continue to amaze, and with Eric Bischoff taking over, he will likely be one of the people who receive more time going forward. Ultimately, as we mentioned, it's highly unlikely, but if anyone can recreate the magical bout that Lesnar once had with Eddie Guerrero, it's Ali, and it's one the WWE need to seriously consider.

#2 Roman Reigns

Sure, this may not have worked the first few times, but given the support The Big Dog has received over the past year, WWE may look to this story once again. The first contest back at WrestleMania 31 was fantastic, and while their latest bouts haven't been as good, it's always a fun, hard-fought contest to see.

Ultimately, WWE can see that Reigns as the top babyface isn't working, and while he'll be on the top of the mountain one day again, it won't come by way of dethroning The Beast Incarnate. If WWE do away with the Wild Card rule, it will be fun to see Reigns enjoy his time in the main event on SmackDown Live, but right now, there's potential that this bout happens one more time.

It's hard to see what the future holds for Roman Reigns, and while the fans probably won't enjoy another encounter, WWE haven't exactly been following the fans' desires over the past few years.

#1 Drew McIntyre

WWE has been building Drew McIntyre as a future top star since he re-debuted on the main roster, and if it isn't to dethrone Brock Lesnar, we don't know what it was all for. Sure, they're both currently positioned as heels, but given what a physical war they could have, this one needs to happen before WrestleMania 36 (possibly even at that show).

It's highly unlikely that Lesnar will drop the belt soon, but he can't hold it for too long, and the Scottish Psychopath is the best option for the job. Physically, McIntyre is one of the only men that can stand up to The Beast, and these two could tell a fantastic story inside the ring.

Waiting too long to crown McIntyre could hurt him in the long run, but if the WWE put him on a hot run, potentially winning the Royal Rumble, it would be a very anticipated, hard-fought bout.
