Elias first gained success on the WWE main roster as a heel. He would chastise the town that held either RAW, SmackDown or a PPV and the fans would eat it up. The cheers got so loud that it seemed as if he would be getting some of the loudest reactions and cheers as a heel.

That reaction sort of forced a face turn as did Roman Reigns' departure to deal with Leukemia. It felt like his songs as a heel, however, were more thought out and performed in a much better manner.

As a face, his songs did not always have the desired impact as could be seen with his attempts at making fun of Bayley after she turned heel.

Since his performances were more believable as a heel (in my opinion), he seems better suited to stay as a bad guy when he returns from injury. Those interactions when he mocked faces and WWE Legends gave him more exposure to bigger names from the past (The Rock, John Cena).

The in-ring portion of his game in WWE is fine either way, but when it comes to promos, his delivery is much more impactful as a bad guy. Since he's so dependent on his songs and they worked better as a heel, he should go back to mocking faces upon his return from injury.
