5 WWE Superstars who held Championships for only one day

Kane has the ignominy of having a one-day IC

One of the best things a wrestler can achieve in WWE is a Championship. Depending on the talent and rank of the superstar on the roster, he is given opportunities to compete against others and these performances help him in gaining a championship shot.

To win the title is one side of the coin but the other side of it is the superstar’s effectiveness as a champion and the number of days he/she could keep the title. There have been many champions in the WWE both men and women who have taken the pride of the titles to unimaginable heights but there are also the ones who couldn't retain the title for long.

Add to that, there are also superstars that couldn't even defend the title for more than a day. As part of this slideshow, let us have a look at 5 Championships and Superstars who held them only for one day -

US Championship- Raven

Not a remarkable US Champ

It was a known fact that Raven was a very good wrestler and accomplished a lot in the business. There is one thing we conveniently forget about Raven. He won the US title in 1998 and held it only for one day.

Raven defeated Diamond Dallas Page at the Spring Stampede event in 1998 and was crowned the new US Champ. However, he lost the belt the following night to Bill Goldberg on Nitro making him a one day US champion. This is his only reign as the US Champion and that left him a bad memory. Standing next to him was Edge with a single reign lasting for 6 days.

Divas Championship - Jillian Hall

Jillian Hall

Jillian Hall started wrestling in 1998 and announced her retirement in 2014 working for a couple of promotions on the independent circuit. During this span, she worked with the WWE from 2005-2010.

She initially appeared on SmackDown but in June 2007, she was drafted to Raw, where she participated in numerous tag team matches after aliging with Melina. In October 2009, she won her first WWE Divas Championship against Mickie James but lost it to Melina the same night.

Hall could not even keep the title at least for one day and this was the only Divas title reign for Hall in WWE. Hall's contract ended in 2010 and she was eventually released from WWE in November 2010.

Tag Team Championship - John Cena

The 15-time world champion is not a very impressive tag team champion

There are a few guys who held on to the Tag team championship for a maximum of one day. Bob Backlund, Pedro Morales, Chainsaw Charlie and John Cena were the ones who did this.

It was astonishing to see Cena's name in the list as Cena won the WWE Tag team championship twice- once with The Miz and once with David Otunga. On both the occasions, Cena couldn't preserve the title for more than 24 hours.

This was really shocking given the accomplishments John Cena has to his name in the company. Cena getting one more shot at the Tag titles is highly unlikely which means that John has to carry this defamatory record throughout his life.

Intercontinental Championship- Zack Ryder

WrestleMania moment for Ryder

There are a couple of guys who couldn't defend the prestigious Intercontinental Championship for more than a day - Dean Douglas and Zack Ryder. Let us consider the curious case of Zack Ryder here.

He won the IC Championship very recently on the grandest stage of them all, WrestleMania 32 in a 7-man ladder match. This was a phenomenal achievement given the steep career curve of Ryder at present.

The creative team wanted to shock everyone and they made him lose the title the very next night against The Miz. Ryder was a fan favourite and the universe has some expectations on this guy but draining their hopes this way won't bode well for the company.

WWE Championship - Rey Mysterio

I still remember Rey’s expression after he lost the title

Winning the ultimate prize in the company, the WWE Championship, is a dream to many. There are some ultimate underdogs in history that have overcome all the obstacles and fulfilled their dream and became WWE Champions.

Eddie Guerrero, Daniel Bryan, Rey Mysterio were a few of them. Rey Mysterio won his first WWE Championship in July 2011 by defeating The Miz. His celebration did not last long. He immediately lost the title the same night, thanks to John Cena. He managed to keep the title less than a day and that is the last time he won the WWE title. Others who belong to the same club are Kane and Andre the Giant.
