5 WWE Superstars that could become the new United States Champion if Rey Mysterio vacates the title

Rey Mysterio became the new Unites States Champion after defeating Samoa Joe at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view. But there are some rumors that Mysterio might have separated his shoulder during the match. He was recently in Birmingham to evaluate the severity of his injury and how long he could be out of action.

WWE has not made anything official regarding Mysterio's injury but they are advertising that the state of United States Championship will be addressed next week on Raw. Now Mysterio could vacate the title due to his injury, which means we could possibly see a new champion. There are various other WWE Superstars who could win the title.

#5 Sami Zayn

Sami Zayn

Sami Zayn returned on Raw after WrestleMania 35. He was out of action for nearly nine months due to suffering an injury on both his shoulders. Since his return he has seemingly improved his character, mostly his promo work. He is slowly becoming a major heel on Raw, even on SmackDown working alongside Kevin Owens.

Now, Zayn has still not won any main roster title since arriving from NXT. Even though he has competed in various title matches, he failed to win any of them. WWE needs to utilize Zayn's great work which he has doing lately and make him the new United States Champion. The title will suit his heelish character with the babyfaces chasing him.

The Miz

The Miz lost his feud against Shane McMahon, which began before WrestleMania 35. Firstly, he lost the Falls Count Anywhere match which was scheduled for the Show of Shows, then last week he lost the Steel Cage match at Money in the Bank. These losses could be building his babyface character. After all, the babyfaces get their big moment after too many losses.

But to be honest, Miz's babyface run has been lackluster. As a heel his run has always been excellent. When he held mid-card titles, he made those titles relevant. The United States Title is suffering with awful champions, but if Miz wins the title he could make it the most prestigious title in WWE, just like he made the Intercontinental Title prestigious.

Ricochet was called-up to the main roster way too soon, as he never achieved too much in NXT. He was bought alongside three other top NXT stars, out of which two of them went back to NXT, and one of them shifted to SmackDown. Ricochet was one of the participants in the Men's Money in the Bank Ladder match which he didn't win.

The company always fails to use their NXT stars on the main roster properly. Ricochet is really talented and deserves to be one of the top stars in WWE. So, he could become the next United States Champion as winning a title will make his call-up relevant. Also, he can title look important with his thrilling in-ring skills.

Drew McIntyre has been stale ever since losing to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 35. It was rumored that Vince McMahon wanted to push him into the main event scene but the company has still not given him a proper push. McIntyre is a main event level star and WWE needs to utilize him as soon as possible.

One scenario could be to make him the next United States Champion. The last time McIntyre won a title was alongside Dolph Ziggler when both were Raw Tag Team Champions. Since losing those titles and breaking up with Ziggler, he hasn't done much. By winning the United States Title not only it will elevate the title but even could began a McIntyre push.

AJ Styles

AJ Styles lost his Universal Championship match against Seth Rollins at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view. He was just recently drafted to Raw during the Superstar Shake-Up 2019 and straight away was given a push into the main event scene. Styles was also a main event star during his three years run on SmackDown.

WWE needs to put him back into the mid-card for the time being by letting him win the United States Title. Styles a former United States Champion and had amazing feuds with various WWE Superstars during his run and also he isn't expected to continue to feud with Rollins as it was a one-off match. So, Styles will be perfect candidate to win the title.
