WWE Universe is fine with wrestlers who aren't good on the microphone. Shinsuke Nakamura and Andrade are the perfect examples right now – both can't speak English fluently but are still over with the fans because of their skills.

Even in WWE History, Scott Steiner wasn't that great but fans loved him and the same can be said about Batista to an extent. But at the same time, they were great in the ring or at least connected with the fans with their actions.

However, The Great Khali is one who just couldn't do both. He was just not the kind of superstar fans wanted to see as champion but Vince McMahon was once convinced that he could be the face of the company.

But the fact remains that Khali just could not wrestle. He was a monster but just chopping people on the head and delivering chokeslams should not be enough to become a champion.
