In late 1999, Jeff Jarrett knew his time with the WWE was at its end.

Double-J was certain he wanted to join the opposing WCW, and through some convenient booking by close friend Vince Russo, was the WWF Intercontinental Champion despite his contract expiring.

With no legal obligation to defend his title at the No Mercy 1999 pay per view against Chyna, Jarrett reportedly demanded an obscene amount of money from Vince McMahon, though Jarrett has refuted the claims.

Seeing no other option, McMahon paid the Chosen One, and Jarrett lost the title at the pay per view to the ninth wonder of the world. Blacklisted from WWE, Jarrett would later start TNA Wrestling, before returning to the WWE in 2018 to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
