By 2001, Triple H had established himself as one of the top stars in recent memory.

A multiple-time World Champion, the Game was also an Intercontinental Champion, and after teaming with the recently-turned 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin, added the tag titles to his accolades.

It was whilst he was teaming with the Rattlesnake, that the King of Kings suffered a horrific injury, as his quad tore during the match against Chris Jericho.

Unable to put any pressure on it, Helmsley somehow finished the contest, in a hotly contested match that saw the Game be locked into the Walls of Jericho on a table.

After finishing the match, the Game missed the rest of the year, as he needed to have surgery on his leg. He won the 30-man Royal Rumble for the first time in 2002 on his return.
