Randy Orton had been out of action since October 2015 and it was announced more than a month before that he would be Brock Lesnar's SummerSlam 2015 opponent. Brock Lesnar was preparing for his UFC return and fight against Mark Hunt in the co-headliner of UFC 200.

It was a bit surprising that WWE decided to announce his SummerSlam match in advance, but it was a blockbuster bout since the two had faced off before, but only when Randy Orton was young. This time around, he was a 12-time World Champion and the story of the two was going back to their days together in the developmental territory Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW).

As expected, it was the headliner of the show and the only Interbrand match on the card (the brand split had kicked in a month before). Brock Lesnar would go on to legitimately slice Randy Orton open with a series of elbows. The contest ended after Randy Orton's forehead was cut and he lay down on a pool of his own blood.

It was weird and shocking at the same time and what was even weirder was the fact that Chris Jericho was legitimately furious backstage, believing that Brock Lesnar went to business for himself.

It takes a lot to stand up to Brock Lesnar and the two almost got into an altercation before they were separated.
