WWE legend Edge has always been seen as one of the best WWE Superstars of all time, and the former WWE Champion made a miraculous return to the ring earlier this year. Edge’s run in the 2020 Royal Rumble was special and he came face to face with a man many of us know as his friend, Randy Orton.

However, on the episodes of WWE RAW and the events that followed, Randy Orton and Edge got into a bitter on-screen rivalry. Backstage, the two men remain the closest of friends and The Rated-R Superstar seems to prefer working with The Viper.

Talking about the first time he met Randy Orton, Edge revealed the following to USA Today’s For The Win:

“The first time I met him, I still remember it, I really do. That meeting where Bob [Orton] introduced us, and I just remember thinking ‘hey, he’s taller than me.’ And thinking that he’s got all the tools by just looking at him. You know, he’s a good-looking guy, all of those things – but you don’t know what they bring to the table from an in-ring aspect. The first time I saw him work, I went ‘OK, he’s special.’ And then the first time that we ever actually wrestled against each other was for the Intercontinental title, and pretty much from the get-go, from the first time we locked up there was just something different between us. And it’s either there or it’s not. You can work to get there with someone, but with him and I that spark was immediate. And I’ve had it like that with maybe one other person.”

WWE Hall Of Famer and co-host of SiriusXM’s Busted Open Radio Bully Ray, known by his ring name Bubba Ray Dudley, also spoke about how the two men’s real-life friendship and backstory helped elevate their rivalry:

“Now we get to something completely different with Edge. We get a backstory, we get history, we get friendship, we get family.”

The two men’s friendship has helped give WWE fans some of the best storylines over the decades where they have teamed up with one another and also gone head to head on several occasions.

Even though Randy Orton has been around forever in WWE, Edge is the only man with whom he's held the WWE World Tag Team Championships.
