7 current WWE Superstars who are just one win away from being Grand Slam Champions

Grand Slam Champions - they really are a rare breed.

In its current format, there are only 13 names on the list - with Kofi Kingston becoming the most recent WWE Superstar to add his name to a very elite company at WrestleMania 35 when he finally won the WWE Championship for the first time.

With legends like Kurt Angle, Eddie Guerrero, Edge, and Big Show leading the way, it's no mean feat to win primary, secondary, tertiary and tag team gold over your career, and that's proven with how elite the list is.

Miz, Daniel Bryan, Chris Jericho, Randy Orton, Jeff Hardy, and all three members of The Shield make up the grand total of 13 Superstars who have won the WWE or Universal Championship, RAW or SmackDown Tag Team Championship, Intercontinental Championship and the United States Championship in their careers.

At the moment, WWE distinguishes the Grand Slam Champions and Triple Crown Champions too and doesn't count the World Heavyweight Championship - or big gold belt - that originated from WCW. Otherwise, Dolph Ziggler would be on the list, and Rey Mysterio would only need one to win.

But who could be next? Well, this list may be jumping the gun a bit, but with seven Superstars currently teetering right on the edge, and we all know anything can happen in WWE, the next Grand Slam Champion could be crowned at any given moment!

So, let's run through the six men who may be wondering just how long it'll be before they join that elite class of WWE Superstars.

#7 Kevin Owens

KO has won the big one!
KO has won the big one!

Well, he may have been left off of the WrestleMania 35 card, but it looks like KO is back in a big way after the Prizefighter used SmackDown Live this week to show he was still here and ready to go - delivering a Stunner to Rusev following a Six-Man Tag Team Match.

Having already won the WWE Universal Championship as the second ever champion on RAW, the WWE Intercontinental Championship twice and the United States Championship three times, KO is one of WWE's most decorated Superstars despite only being on the roster for around five years.

This means KO simply needs to win either the Raw or SmackDown Tag Team Championships in order to become a Grand Slam Champion - but that's no mean feat when you're not someone who plays nicely with others, particularly at a time when the Tag Team Divisions are both booming.

Could we see KO win the Tag Team Titles soon? Maybe a rekindling of friendship with Sami Zayn could be just what the Prizefighter needs.

#6 Shelton Benjamin

Ain't no stoppin' him now!
Ain't no stoppin' him now!

Now, Shelton Benjamin may be one of the more surprising names on this list - but that doesn't mean he should be underestimated. We all know that anything can happen in WWE, and surprise packages can even win the biggest of prizes, as Jinder Mahal proved just recently.

Shelty B was last spotted in WWE doing Brock Lesnar's dirty work in the lead up to his WrestleMania 35 match with Seth Rollins, but Benjamin is indeed still contracted to WWE, and a push could come at any point.

Benjamin though does need to win the biggest prize of all to join the elite club, so a WWE Championship or Universal Championship reign would need to be forthcoming - with Benjamin boasting three Intercontinental Championship reigns, two Tag Team Championship reigns and one United States Championship reign.

#5 Sheamus

The Celtic Warrior just needs one more singles reign
The Celtic Warrior just needs one more singles reign

It all started off incredibly well for Sheamus when he became the WWE Champion very shortly after his debut, and two United States Championships showed him off to be one of WWE's top singles stars - although The Celtic Warrior has now transitioned into more of a team player, winning the Tag Team Championships five times alongside Cesaro as part of The Bar.

If he ever pursues a singles career again, one Intercontinental Championship win would see Sheamus become number 14 on the elite list.

#4 Kane

Is Kane still with WWE?
Is Kane still with WWE?

Okay, so the Big Red Machine may be one of the stranger names on this list, purely because it's a rarity to see him nowadays with rumors rife that Kane may even have quietly retired from in-ring competition, but he definitely deserves a mention here.

Kane's career has been a very illustrious and impressive one, with two decades behind him - and you'd think he was already one of those Superstars who had won everything - but one title still eludes him to be added to the list.

Oddly, Kane is a Grand Slam Champion as per the old format, but not the current one.

Kane has won several 'World' Championships, but only one has been the WWE Championship in its current lineage. He's also no stranger to the Tag Team Championships, and of course, has won the Intercontinental Championship.

All Kane needs to join the 13 is a United States Championship reign, but it may be one of the more unlikely ones now.

#3 Triple H

The Game is a 14-time World Champion
The Game is a 14-time World Champion

Another Superstar you may automatically assume had won the lot is Triple H. Like Kane, he may be on the final leg of his in-ring career, although we do see The Game slightly more often.

Triple H is a huge part of WWE, but maybe another reign - particularly the one he would need - is beyond him.

Triple H is a 14-time World Champion, and the WWE Championship has obviously been in there a few times. Nine to be precise. Five Intercontinental Championship reigns and two Tag Team title runs mean that, like Kane, only the United States Championship eludes him.

#2 Zack Ryder

You know it!
You know it!

Now for one more huge surprise. Zack Ryder is also only one Championship win away from becoming a Grand Slam Champion.

While the Long Island Iced-Z always seems to be on the backburner, he has a habit of popping up at WrestleMania and winning the odd gold strap here and there.

Zack Ryder won the RAW Tag Team Championships again at WrestleMania 35, but he already had this almost-accolade before that, boasting one reign with both the Intercontinental Championship and the United States Championship, as well as a previous Tag Team Championship reign.

It may seem like a miracle is needed for Ryder to win the WWE Championship or Universal Championship - but as I said before about Jinder Mahal's reign - stranger things HAVE happened. Would Ryder winning the title be more bizarre than either that or Mr. McMahon himself holding the gold?

Does Zack Ryder stand a chance of making the elite club? Woo, woo, woo - you know it!

#1 John Cena

The Champ is here - but not a Grand Slam one yet
The Champ is here - but not a Grand Slam one yet

John Cena has won it all, right? Well, not quite.

Most people would assume Cena was already a Grand Slam Champion. I mean, he's a 16-time World Champion. Add to this a two-time Royal Rumble winner, Mr. Money in the Bank, and ten Slammy Awards, and he's definitely won more than most - and even more than most put together.

Cena though can't quite call himself a Grand Slam Champion. While he's held the main belt 13 times out of his 16 World Title reigns, and the United States Championship five times, as well as the Tag Team Titles a couple of times too, Cena is still missing one thing.

The Intercontinental Championship

Much like Triple H and Kane, Cena is around a lot less these days, but he still seems to have a lot left in the tank. Could a run with the white title be around the corner? One thing's for sure, you can never rule out John Cena!

Who would you like to see become the next Grand Slam Champion? Let us know in the comments.
