7 Dream Singles matches for the Rock at WrestleMania (which never happened)

This is what you call
This is what you call "Once in a lifetime" match.

The Rock is one of the most electrifying men, not only in the sports entertainment but also in the Hollywood. He has featured in some of the dream matches at WrestleMania.

However, there are a couple of dream matches which never happened. Here are the opponents, who never had their one-on-one chance against the “Great One” at WrestleMania.

#1 The Undertaker

The
This match will be one of the biggest draw in the history of WrestleMania.

If the Rock is the most electrifying man, the Undertaker is the Holy-Grail, especially when it comes to WrestleMania. The status of the Undertaker at the “Show of the Shows” is such that it is fair to say it is a bigger loss at the hands of the Rock by not getting the opportunity to face the “Deadman” at his favourite battleground.

We are still hopeful to be treated to this match at WrestleMania 35, where these two cornerstones shall collide. This match will be bigger than any championship match and will be one of the greatest icon vs. icon match.

#2 Shawn Michaels

A show-stopper match!
A match with the show-stopper!

Oh, My God!

A match at WrestleMania against Mr. WrestleMania. What more could one ask for?

Unfortunately, the PPV (Summerslam 2002) when the “Heart Break Kid” decided to lace-up his boots again was also the PPV when the Rock handed over the baton to the next big thing, Brock Lesnar.

As Michaels continued to give heart-stopping performances since his return, the Rock was busy to fulfill his Hollywood commitments and took leave from the in-ring action at WrestleMania from WM 20 to WM 28. Notably, Shawn Michaels retired at WrestleMania 26.

As per Dave Meltzer, HBK was scheduled to work with the Rock when HBK returned in 2002. But the Rock wasn’t interested in working with the veteran.

Leaving alone the reason, this would have been a blockbuster match.

#3 Randy Orton

Will he kill the legend of the Rock?
Will he kill the legend of the Rock?

Randy Orton earned name for himself early in his career as the “Legend Killer”. However, the Rock was one legend whom Orton didn’t get a chance to kill.

While Orton got his hands on every other Superstar, the Rock was the one superstar that always eluded him. Although, Orton got a chance to be in the ring with the “Great One” during WrestleMania XX when the Evolution took on the “Rock-N-Sock” connection.

It will be interesting to see how the Rock will “electrify” his way away from the “RKO outta nowhere”.

#4 Edge

A spear for the Rock?
A spear for the Rock?

Edge made it really big when he embodied the persona of the “Ultimate Opportunist”. He successfully transitioned from the crowd’s favorite face to one of the most “loved” heels of all times.

The Rock and Edge have fought side-by-side in the past in several tag matches. It will be something to cheer for when these two face each other.

With Edge in the ring, a lot of stipulations for the match are on the cards. It can be a ladder match, an extreme rules match or even a surprise money-in-the-bank match.

#5 Brock Lesnar

Will the beast roar in victory against the People's Champ?
Will the beast roar in victory against the People's Champ?

The Rock passed the baton to the next big thing at the Summerslam 2002, when the winner of that year's “King of the Ring” tournament, Brock Lesnar, defeated him decisively for the WWE championship.

Brock Lesnar is the one of the rare superstars whom the Rock has faced one-on-one but is yet to defeat. It was discussed that the Rock vs. Brock Lesnar was on the cards for WrestleMania 30.

However, the injury which the Rock suffered during his match against John Cena at WrestleMania 29 put an end to the Rock’s WrestleMania journey for a full-time match.

If these two had clashed at WrestleMania 30, we might have seen John Cena vs. the Undertaker on the same night.

#6 Triple H

A match for ages.
A match for ages.

Triple H and the Rock were the centerpieces of the WWE back during the start of the new millennium. The two faced each other numerous times in matches like No-DQ match, 60-minutes Iron man match, the ladder match, etc.

It is an irony that the “biggest stage of them all” has never featured one of the most heated rivalries in the history of this business.

The two were booked in a fatal-four match at WrestleMania 16 with the Big Show and Mic Foley being the other two-quarters of the equation. Another occurrence was at WrestleMania 31 when the Rock and Ronda Rousey took on Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.

This is one of the matches that must happen before the Sun sets down on the career of any one of these two superstars.

#7 CM Punk

Punk quotes: "Your arm is too short to box with the God!"

CM Punk was one of the hottest superstar to feud with before his untimely (and controversial) exit from WWE. He cut a series of awesome promos against the Rock and featured in two singles matches against the Rock at the Royal Rumble and the Elimination Chamber in 2013, both of which Punk lost.

CM Punk shared his feelings on the Colt Cabana podcast about "dropping” the WWE title for the Rock at the Royal Rumble after Punk held it for a record 434 days. This led to one of the rare moments when the Rock faced the heat from the WWE Universe on the social media.

A significant section of WWE Universe still believes that instead of having John Cena vs. the Rock at WrestleMania 29, a re-match of their “Once in a Lifetime” match at WrestleMania 28, it would be better to have a Triple-threat match to close the show.
